You'll see the term "TEU" in every port headline, so here's what it means. TEU stands for twenty-foot equivalent unit, and it's how ports count containers. One 20-foot container is 1 TEU. The 40-foot boxes you see most often on Georgia highways count as 2.

So when Savannah reports 504,015 TEUs for September, that's roughly 250,000 to 300,000 actual containers. Every one of them leaves the port on a chassis behind a truck, on a train, or both. Savannah handles about 15,000 truck gate moves a day, and that's what keeps store shelves across the Southeast stocked.

If you've been through Garden City lately, you've seen it. The Port of Savannah just had the busiest September in its history, moving 504,015 containers, 3.7% more than last September. Most of that growth came from imports. Typhoon delays in Asia pushed peak season later than usual, and shippers picked Savannah because freight keeps moving here.

For us, that means steady work. Our trucks run that freight every day, hauling containers off the port and flatbed loads across Georgia. We're looking for a few more good CDL-A drivers for both containers and flatbed. Diesel Mechanic!

We’re looking for a hands-on diesel mechanic to assist with daily shop operations, routine truck maintenance, and inspections. Technical certification is not required.

**Responsibilities:**

- Perform truck servicing and preventive maintenance.
- Change, repair, and maintain tires.
- Inspect, service, and repair brakes.
- Complete truck inspections and accurately document maintenance.
- Replace fuel filters and properly prime fuel systems.

**Qualifications:**

- Preferably 3–5 years of diesel mechanic experience.
- Proficiency in tire work, brake maintenance, truck servicing, and inspection procedures.
- Experience servicing PACCAR engines, including fuel filter replacement and priming, is a major plus.
- Willingness to perform routine maintenance and daily shop tasks regardless of experience level.
- Strong attention to safety, reliability, and quality workmanship.

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration has restored the automatic hours-of-service relief period from 14 days to 30 days for truck drivers providing direct assistance during certain declared regional emergencies.

The change gives qualifying carriers and drivers more time to transport essential supplies and help restore critical services during hurricanes, floods, wildfires, and other emergencies—without needing to request an extension after only two weeks.

Professional truck drivers play an essential role during emergencies, often working behind the scenes to deliver fuel, food, equipment, and other critical supplies when communities need them most.
