🌀Typhoon Update🌀

Typhoon Bavi, with a wind radius exceeding 350 km, is gradually approaching Taiwan. Based on the latest weather forecast, rain is expected to begin on Thursday, with the strongest impact likely on Friday and Saturday.

Northern Taiwan is expected to experience strong winds and heavy rainfall, while central and southern Taiwan are likely to see lighter impacts but should still expect periods of rain.

As the typhoon's track may still change, we recommend keeping a close eye on the latest weather updates and checking your flight status regularly. If necessary, adjust your travel plans accordingly. Your safety should always come first.

Today marks a major moment for Taiwan’s literary world — Taiwanese author Yang Shuang-zi’s novel Taiwan Travelogue has won the 2026 International Booker Prize, becoming the first Taiwanese literary work ever to receive the award.

Set in 1930s Taiwan during the Japanese colonial period, the story follows Japanese writer Chizuko Aoyama, who travels to Taiwan for work and becomes determined to try a wide variety of Taiwanese street foods (the book’s chapter titles are all named after dishes). Along the journey, she develops an emotional connection with her local female interpreter.

Through the format of a travelogue, the novel explores the power dynamics between colonizer and colonized, as well as the pressures placed on women within societal expectations.

Including a museum visit during your journey may lead to unexpected discoveries.

One of our guests visited the National Museum of Prehistory in Taitung and was so inspired by the experience that they later wrote an article about it, which was published in the Journal of the Oceanic Art Society (OAS).

OAS is dedicated to promoting understanding of Oceanic art and culture, and the article mentions that this museum is absolutely worth visiting for anyone interested in Oceanic art, culture, and anthropology.

The 2026 Baishatun Mazu Pilgrimage has officially come to a close.

With a history spanning 291 years, the Baishatun Mazu Pilgrimage is a longstanding religious tradition in Taiwan. Each year, Mazu from Gongtian Temple in Baishatun, Miaoli, leads devotees on a journey on foot to Chaotian Temple in Beigang, Yunlin—a distance of approximately 300 to 400 kilometers.

What sets the Baishatun Mazu Pilgrimage apart from the Dajia Mazu Pilgrimage is that its route is not fixed. This makes the journey especially challenging, testing participants’ physical strength and endurance. Even so, this year’s pilgrimage attracted over 460,000 registered participants, demonstrating the deep devotion people hold for Mazu.

Events like this also highlight the warmth and generosity of the Taiwanese people. Many local businesses and residents voluntarily provide food, water, transportation support, and even free accommodation along the way—making this pilgrimage truly unique.

Walking alongside the deity and praying for peace and safety is a cultural experience in Taiwan that should not be missed.

\\ Chiayi Lantern Festival On-Site //

The Taiwan Lantern Festival officially opened in Chiayi on March 3, attracting two million visitors in a single day. At the venue, visitors can admire the 21-meter-tall main lantern, along with many horse-themed lanterns and imaginative works created by artists.

This year’s Chiayi Lantern Festival also features several international collaborations, including the mechanical art circus Planète Vapeur from France, the Aomori Nebuta Festival—one of Japan’s three major Tohoku festivals—and Super Mario from Nintendo, adding even more excitement and diversity to the event.

In addition to lantern displays, the organizers have arranged a variety of performances, including parades, music and dance shows, and theatrical performances. Visitors of all ages can find something enjoyable here.

We were delighted to host our friends from Austria this time!
It’s their second visit to Taiwan — last time, they only stayed for a day during a layover. This time, Voyager In Taiwan arranged a 10-day itinerary for them to explore several cities across the island.
