Everyone wants the Greenland adventure… until they realize Greenland doesn’t care if you make it.

From the outside it looks like a dream: mountains, icebergs, still water, and a sailboat anchored in one of the most beautiful places on earth.

But getting here means cold watches, fog, ice, remote anchorages, bad charts, no easy help nearby, and weather that decides the schedule for you.

That’s the strange pull of places like this.

They are beautiful because they are wild.

And they are wild because they are not made for us.

Imagine waking up, opening the door… and this is outside.

After days at sea, fog, cold watches, wet gear, and the long crossing from Labrador, Greenland finally stopped being a point on the chart.

It became this.

Still water. Mountains. Icebergs drifting past the boat. Sunlight pouring into the fjord like the whole place was waiting for us.

Inside, life is still messy — boots, coffee, damp clothes, tired crew.

Then you step outside and suddenly none of that matters.

This is why we crossed the Labrador Sea.

Everyone wants the adventure… until nature reminds you who’s in charge.

Inside, it’s still just boat life — coffee, wet boots, tired crew, the same small routines that keep everything moving.

Then you step outside.

And suddenly the ocean doesn’t feel like empty space anymore.

It feels alive. Cold. Beautiful. Unforgiving.

That’s the strange thing about this life: the moments you dream about are often the same moments that make you feel very, very small.

Halfway across the Labrador Sea.

No land in sight. No harbour to duck into. Just cold water, fog, watches, coffee, and a boat full of people slowly settling into the rhythm of an ocean crossing.

Behind us: Labrador.

Ahead of us: Greenland.

This is the strange part of sailing north — the moment where the map looks empty, the days start blending together, and everyone onboard becomes very aware that the only way out is to keep going.

Would you feel calm out here… or trapped?

After picking up the new crew in Halifax, we started sailing north toward Greenland.

Calm days along Nova Scotia. Cape Breton. Bras d’Or Lake. Newfoundland. Then Labrador.

Our last stop in North America was Hawke Harbour — a quiet anchorage now, but once home to an old whaling station where thousands of whales were processed between 1905 and 1959.

It feels strange to sit around a small bonfire in a place with that much history, fishing for trout, walking old animal trails, finding bear tracks, and waiting for the weather to let us go.

Now the boat is ready.

The crew is ready.

Next, we leave North America behind and cross the Labrador Sea to Greenland.
