REVIEW La Lanna, Chiang Mai, Thailand — River Flow In You Villa room.

hot pool + river sound + modern forest design (about 1 hour from Chiang Mai Airport, near Mae Kampong).

Here’s my full, honest review — what felt worth it, what didn’t, and who it’s best for.

------------------------------------------------------
🌧️ Trip details & first impression
------------------------------------------------------
I stayed in July (rainy season), and honestly… this is the “right” weather for this place. The valley was deep green, the sky was grey on and off, and the stream sound was the background music all day and all night.

Before I went, I was a bit worried it might be “too social-media perfect.” This resort is popular, and influencers come a lot. But when I arrived, it matched the photos without needing “the perfect angle.” Some corners looked even better in real life—especially the stream, the forest across the water, and the small design details inside the villa.

- Rainy season = cooler air + greener views
- The stream sound is real (and quite loud at night)

------------------------------------------------------
🛏️ River Flow In You Villa – the hero of this trip
------------------------------------------------------
This was a big 2-bedroom villa right next to the stream. The layout felt like a real “house in the forest,” not a hotel room trying to pretend.

Bathroom:
The open-air shower was a highlight for me. Showering under the sky, next to a big tree, felt oddly relaxing (and yes, I checked above me first… no monkeys auditioning as shower inspectors).

Bed comfort:
The bed and bedding were comfortable enough. Not “perfect city 5-star,” but I slept well and didn’t wake up annoyed.

View & privacy:
Both bedrooms faced the pool deck, so everyone gets the same forest + water feeling. It worked well for couples, or 3–4 friends who still want some privacy.

- 2 bedrooms, well-separated layout
- Big deck with a private hot warm pool in front
- Warm minimal style: white + wood + grey (simple, not empty)
- Open-air shower beside a large tree (very nature-friendly)
- Basic amenities were complete (not homestay-minimal)

Small misses:
- My villa type did NOT have the “slide-out bed” (some other rooms do) — double-check your room name, unless you want to “slide yourself” into the pool instead 😅
- Only 1 main bathroom for a 2-bedroom villa (morning queue can happen)

------------------------------------------------------
🏝️ Resort atmosphere & facilities – for chill & design lovers
------------------------------------------------------
La Lanna felt more like a small design village by the stream than a big resort. There were only around ten-ish units, so it stayed quiet and personal. The main “feature” here is not a long list of facilities—it’s the feeling of being surrounded by forest, water, and calm design.

Facilities I tried / noticed:
- Private hot warm pool at the villa (the main reason to come)
- Hillside paths through big trees (great for slow walks + photos)
- Main restaurant/lobby area by the water
- Golf cart transfer from parking to your villa
- Wi-Fi in public areas and rooms (mobile signal may drop a bit in the valley)

What you won’t get:
- No big swimming pool, gym, or kids club like city hotels

------------------------------------------------------
🎲 Activities / service vibe
------------------------------------------------------
My “activities” were simple (and that was the point). I soaked, listened to the stream, and let my brain go quiet for a while. Then I drove out for short trips around Mae Kampong and nearby cafes.

Service was better than I expected for a small forest resort. The team felt friendly and quick, and small requests didn’t turn into a long wait.

- Staff were warm and helpful (extra water, pillows, blankets)
- Fast response time for requests
- I mentioned my birthday and they surprised me with a full balloon setup in the room (sweet, and honestly impressive)

------------------------------------------------------
🍽️ Breakfast & restaurants – honest pros & cons
------------------------------------------------------
Dinner at the main restaurant (“Kang Jorng”) was worth doing at least once. At night, the warm lights + forest air + soft water sound made it feel quietly romantic without trying too hard.

Breakfast was set-style (not buffet), but you could order more. The taste and ingredients felt above “small resort standard,” and the morning view made everything better.

What I liked:
- Local Chiang Mai items like khao soi (plus rice porridge, eggs, salad)
- Good flavor and good ingredients (not lazy cooking)
- You can reorder (they didn’t act like extra food is a crime)

What some people may not love:
- If you want a big buffet line, this will feel simple
- Choices aren’t huge, but the quality helped balance it

------------------------------------------------------
🧩 How the hotel solved a small problem
------------------------------------------------------
In a valley like this, little things can become “big things” (wet weather, slippery paths, lots of bags). For me, the resort handled the practical side smoothly. Parking was at the front, then staff helped with luggage and sent us down by golf cart—no dragging bags through the forest like a survival show.

- Easy arrival flow: park at the entrance, golf cart to villa
- Staff helped quickly when I needed extra items

------------------------------------------------------
📍 Location notes – important to know
------------------------------------------------------
This is in Mae Lai village area, Mae On district, near Mae Kampong. It was about a bit over 1 hour drive from Chiang Mai city/airport. The road was not hard, but some parts were narrow and curvy.

Also, Mae Kampong village roads are tight and busy with people walking. A resort like this almost “has to” sit outside the village for more quiet nature—so La Lanna’s location made sense.

- Better with your own car (or ask the resort about transfer help)
- Expect cool, humid air most of the year
- Stream sound is constant (great if you like it)

------------------------------------------------------
⚖️ Compared with other luxury stays nearby – where this one stands
------------------------------------------------------
If you compare it with the usual options around Mae Kampong:

Homestays in Mae Kampong village:
They are local, simple, cheaper, and more “stay at someone’s home” feeling. Design and privacy are not the main focus.

T-Story Maekampong:
More like resort + cafe with a “built garden” style. Often cheaper, but rooms are simpler, and it doesn’t give the same private hot soak-by-the-stream experience.

La Lanna:
More for people who want design + nature + private soaking, without being inside the crowded village road.

------------------------------------------------------
😅 Who might not enjoy it
------------------------------------------------------
This place is not for everyone, and that’s okay.

- You want super “city-hotel spotless” perfection (this is a forest; leaves/insects can happen)
- You hate outdoor-style bathrooms/showers
- You need many facilities (gym, big pool, kids club)
- You’re a very light sleeper and don’t like loud stream sound at night
- You travel with elders who struggle with steps (ask for units with less walking, use golf cart)

------------------------------------------------------
⭐ One more night?
------------------------------------------------------
Yes. Very easily yes.

One night felt like I just started to match the rhythm here—stream sound, soft morning light, thin mist over the water, and long warm soaks with nothing to rush to. If I came back, I’d want at least two nights.

What I wish could be better:
- A second bathroom for the 2-bedroom villa would reduce the “morning queue” stress
- A few more small comfort touches (even simple ones) would make it feel smoother for groups

------------------------------------------------------
🏛️ A bit about the brand / design story
------------------------------------------------------
La Lanna is a good example of a small Thai resort that grew fast with design + strong storytelling. The style mixed modern tropical ideas: concrete, wood, big glass, and clean lines that still blend with the forest.

Some rooms have a signature “slide-out bed,” and many units focus on private soaking corners made to look good from every angle. They also keep unit count low, but make each unit feel spacious—more like a forest home than a standard hotel room.

------------------------------------------------------
📊 Nerd Zone – quick hotel facts for comparison lovers
------------------------------------------------------
- Area: Mae Lai village zone, Mae On district, Chiang Mai (near Mae Kampong)
- Distance: around 50 km / a bit over 1 hour drive from Chiang Mai Airport (roughly)
- Size: around 8–10 units in total (villa + trailer/glamping style + sister-side units)
- Room style: 1–2 bedroom design villas with private hot warm pools; some unique room features by type
- Check-in/out: around 15:00 / 12:00 (please re-check when booking)

REVIEW Veranda High Resort Chiang Mai – MGallery, Thailand — Valley Deluxe Escape room.

Mountain-valley views + terraced-rice landscape + strong design — about 30–40 mins by car from Chiang Mai Old City / the airport.

Here’s my full, honest review — what felt worth it, what didn’t, and who it’s best for.

------------------------------------------------------
🌧️ Trip details & first impression
------------------------------------------------------
I stayed in August, right in Chiang Mai’s rainy season. The air felt cool and a bit wet, and the morning mist made everything look softer. I planned this trip to “stay in the resort” more than to chase cafés, so the quiet vibe (and fewer guests) was a big win.

When I arrived, the entrance already felt dramatic: a tall red-brick wall on one side (like a Chiang Mai city-wall mood), and a curved bamboo pavilion on the other. After walking over the water path into the lobby, I looked out and saw mountains and terraced fields. It was the kind of view that makes you forget your phone… for about 6 seconds.

- Big resort grounds, but rooms are spread out, so it didn’t feel crowded
- Quiet pathways, lots of water + trees + “my own breathing” on the uphill walk 😆

------------------------------------------------------
🛏️ Valley Deluxe Escape – the hero of this trip
------------------------------------------------------
This room type was one of the main categories, and it worked really well for a slow “stay-in” holiday. The space felt open, with a clear sleeping zone and a separate daybed lounge area, so I never felt trapped in a single corner.

Bed comfort:
- Big king bed (felt larger than standard) and a comfortable soft-medium mattress
- Pillows were the “sleep first, breakfast later” kind

Bathroom:
- Large bathtub + separate shower
- Full resort basics: robe, slippers, umbrella, etc.
- THANN amenities (smelled great and felt premium)

View & privacy:
- Large private balcony with a shallow water feature next to it (not a real pool, but very relaxing)
- On misty mornings, watching fog move across the hills was seriously satisfying
- Small minus: some balconies can connect along the walkway, so privacy wasn’t fully “sealed off”

Room vibe:
- Warm minimal style: wood + stone + earth tones
- Not loud or flashy — more like “easy to live in every day”

------------------------------------------------------
🏝️ Resort atmosphere & facilities – for chill & design lovers
------------------------------------------------------
The resort sat on the Hang D**g hillside, looking out to the Hang D**g–Samoeng mountain line. The landscape design leaned into terraces and tea-garden vibes, so it felt more like a small hill village than a hotel building dropped on a lawn.

Style-wise, it was modern-contemporary with clear Lanna touches. Lots of texture (wood, stone, brick, woven details), but the lines stayed clean. The result felt calm and “blended into the mountain” instead of fighting the scenery.

As I walked around, I kept bumping into:
- Terraced “rice field” landscaping
- Tea garden zones
- Reflecting ponds and small water features
- Big trees + local plants
- Thai-style pavilions and photo corners everywhere

Facilities I tried / looked at:
- Infinity pool + separate kids pool (great view)
- Pool bar (drinks/snacks by the pool)
- Spa (quiet resort-style wellness vibe)
- Gym (not huge, but covers cardio + basic weights)
- Kids’ club (useful for families, but toys looked a bit old)
- Small library/lounge corner for reading or light work
- Golf cart rides around the property (very helpful on slopes)
- Shuttle service to the city/airport on certain rounds (check schedules with the hotel)

------------------------------------------------------
🎲 Service vibe – smooth, friendly, not overly formal
------------------------------------------------------
Check-in felt easy, and the tone of the staff was warm in a natural way. I didn’t feel “scripted luxury,” more like a relaxed resort team that knew guests were here to slow down.

- Quick check-in, no long waiting
- Welcome drink + snack while waiting (nice “holiday starts now” moment)
- Lobby and restaurant teams were friendly and attentive
- Front desk handled small requests fast (extra pillows/blanket came quickly)

------------------------------------------------------
🍽️ Breakfast & restaurants – honest pros & cons
------------------------------------------------------
Breakfast was a standard international buffet mix (Thai + Western + bakery/salad basics), and the view from the dining area was a highlight. Sitting with mountains and terraces in front of you made the meal feel longer and calmer… even when the room got busy.

What I liked:
- Many items tasted good enough (Thai dishes + some bakery items stood out)
- The view from the dining room was excellent
- Choices were “complete” in a typical 5-star buffet way

What I didn’t love:
- Dining space felt small, so busy hours felt tight and a bit noisy
- The live-cooking smell stayed in the air-conditioning area quite strongly
- Seating could run short at peak times, so you might wait for a table

Other restaurants I noticed (but didn’t try this trip):
- The Higher Room: same zone as breakfast, higher viewpoint, good for sunset drinks/dinner
- Rabiang Cha: closer to the terraces/tea garden, more local-feeling setting

------------------------------------------------------
🧩 How the hotel solved a small problem
------------------------------------------------------
I had a small room issue (a few lights not working), and this was where the “real service” showed. I informed the team, and a technician came up quickly without making it a big drama.

- Fast response for maintenance
- Clear communication, no long delays

------------------------------------------------------
📍 Location notes – important to know
------------------------------------------------------
This is for people who want mountain air and nature views, but still want Chiang Mai city within reach. The trade-off is simple: you’ll likely need a car (or call rides) for most things outside the resort.

- Hang D**g–Samoeng route, Ban Pong area, up on the hillside
- About 30–40 mins by car from Chiang Mai Old City / the airport (traffic depends)
- Nearby drives: Royal Park Rajapruek, Doi Kham Temple, Night Safari, Grand Canyon
- Not a “walk out to 7-Eleven” location
- Many slopes inside the resort; if you travel with elders or a wheelchair, ask the hotel about access first

------------------------------------------------------
⚖️ Compared with other luxury hotels – where this one stands
------------------------------------------------------
I’ve stayed at a few “design + nature” properties around Chiang Mai, and Veranda High had its own clear identity: strong landscape design + dramatic viewpoints + photo corners that still felt relaxing in real life.

- Flora Creek (Hang D**g): beautiful gardens and stream vibe; often cheaper, but Veranda felt stronger in service and food
- Panviman (Mae Rim): true “Lanna hill village” mood with 360° mountains; often cheaper, but Veranda felt stronger in service and food
- Cross Chiang Mai Riverside (Ping River): boutique modern-Lanna in the city; similar calm vibe but smaller grounds; Cross was stronger in food, and the city location is easier

------------------------------------------------------
😅 Who might not enjoy it
------------------------------------------------------
I loved the view-and-design side of this resort, but it won’t match everyone’s travel style. If your happiness depends on a huge breakfast hall or walking to cafés, you may feel a little stuck.

- If you hate crowded breakfast rooms, peak time might bother you
- If you want a warm pool, the water can feel *very* cold (even not in winter) 😂
- If you only love “brand-new, everything perfect” hotels, you may notice it’s not newly opened
- If you plan to visit Nimman/Old City multiple times a day, the drive can feel repetitive
- If you don’t drive and don’t want to call rides often, it may feel inconvenient

------------------------------------------------------
⭐ One more night?
------------------------------------------------------
My answer was fast: yes, I wanted one more night.

The view combo (mountains + terraced landscape) and the infinity pool angle were the real “signature” here. The design also worked beyond photos — walking around genuinely felt relaxing, not like a staged set.

- Beautiful landscape and architecture that felt peaceful in real life
- Friendly service from lobby to restaurant
- I’ve come back more than once, and the feeling stayed consistent

If they fixed one thing for me, it would be breakfast: the space and the cooking smell made the experience less comfortable than it should be.

------------------------------------------------------
🏛️ A bit about the brand / design story (short, easy)
------------------------------------------------------
Veranda High Resort Chiang Mai was part of the Thai-owned Veranda Resorts group, and this property sat in Accor’s MGallery portfolio. The design leaned on “modern + Lanna” and used landscape as storytelling: terraces, tea-garden elements, brick walls, and a pavilion-style lobby surrounded by water.

If you like architecture and outdoor spaces, this was one of Chiang Mai’s earlier “design mountain resorts” that many people still talk about.

------------------------------------------------------
📊 Nerd Zone – quick hotel facts for comparison lovers
------------------------------------------------------
I’m the type who likes to compare details, so here’s a quick snapshot:

- Category: 5-star hillside resort in Hang D**g (boutique style, MGallery portfolio)
- Setting: Hang D**g–Samoeng scenic route, close to nature spots and viewpoints
- Rooms: about 70+ rooms (including some villas/residence units)
- Main room types:
- Valley Deluxe / Valley Deluxe Escape / Valley Deluxe Scenery (~58 sq.m.)
- Pavilion / Plunge Pool Pavilion (~78–88 sq.m., some with private pool/Jacuzzi)
- Luxury Pool Villa / Presidential Pool Villa (3-bedroom villas with private pool)
- Timeline: started in the mid-2000s, major renovation around 2019
- Check-in/out: around 14:00 / 12:00 (always confirm when booking)
- Key facilities: infinity pool + kids pool, pool bar, spa, gym, 2 main restaurants, kids club, library/lounge, golf cart service, shuttle rounds (schedule varies)

REVIEW Cross Chiang Mai Riverside, Thailand — GRAND SUITE RIVER VIEW room.

Red-brick design + quiet Ping River lawn + seriously good breakfast. About 15–20 minutes by car from Chiang Mai Airport.

Here’s my full, honest review — what felt worth it, what didn’t, and who it’s best for.

------------------------------------------------------
🌧️ Trip details & first impression
------------------------------------------------------
I stayed in August, right in Chiang Mai rainy season. Outside the hotel, the road felt busy and a bit “city-chaos” (and humid). But the moment I walked through that long red-brick entrance, it felt like someone turned the city volume down.

- Rainy season vibe: cloudy, cool, slightly wet air
- Outside = traffic, inside = calm garden by the river
- I planned to go out for famous food… then I barely left the hotel

------------------------------------------------------
🛏️ GRAND SUITE RIVER VIEW – the hero of this trip
------------------------------------------------------
This suite didn’t feel like a “standard hotel room.” It felt more like a stylish condo suite where you can actually live for a few days. The space, the balcony, and the river view made it very easy to slow down.

- Space: very large, with a clear separate living area
- Balcony: big enough to sit and stretch your legs
- Style: minimal, a little dark, but cozy (great for chill nights)

Bathroom:
The bathroom was wide and practical. Everything worked well, which sounds basic… but we all know it’s not always basic.

- Bathtub: big, easy to enjoy
- Shower: strong water pressure, easy temperature control
- Toiletries: smelled great and felt good (not the “cheap hotel” type)

Bed comfort:
I slept well, but I’ll be honest about the feel.

- King bed: comfortable, but not super “cloud soft”
- No extra topper, so it may feel a bit firm for people who like very soft beds

View & privacy:
This was the main reason I loved the room.

- Full river view with trees
- Best moments: early morning and late afternoon

Small details I liked:
- Quiet air-con, cools fast
- Very little noise from outside or hallway
- Welcome snacks that felt “curated,” not random

------------------------------------------------------
🏝️ Resort atmosphere & facilities – for chill & design lovers
------------------------------------------------------
This is a small boutique resort, but the design is strong. The red brick, the tunnel-like lines, the light and shadow… you can feel the “Wat Umong” inspiration without it being too literal. And the riverside lawn with old trees makes it feel green and calm, even though you’re still close to town.

Facilities I tried / walked around:
- Rooftop infinity pool: great views of the river, the city, and Doi Suthep far away
- Rooftop bar: easy place for a sunset drink
- Gym: small, not many machines, but fine for light workout
- Riverside lawn & courtyard: my favorite spot for sitting and doing nothing (the best activity)

Spa:
- I didn’t try it this time, but it’s there if you want a full “do not disturb” day

------------------------------------------------------
🎲 Service vibe (staff moment)
------------------------------------------------------
The team really carried the experience. Everyone I met was friendly and present — front desk, restaurant staff, security, housekeeping. It didn’t feel like “script service.” It felt like people who actually pay attention.

Then there was the birthday surprise. I stayed during my birthday week, and they prepared a cake and decorated the room with floating balloons. It honestly felt like a small surprise party (without the awkward singing, thank you 😄).

- Fast help when I asked for extra pillows, blankets, and water
- Warm greetings, consistent smiles
- Birthday details felt personal, not copy-paste

------------------------------------------------------
🍽️ Breakfast & restaurants – honest pros & cons
------------------------------------------------------
Breakfast was one of the best parts of this stay. I’m not saying it lightly. I still remember the taste.

It was a mix of:
- Choose main dishes from a menu
- Plus a small buffet line (bread, fruit, juice, etc.)

What I loved:
- Salmon rice bowl, khao soi, and a full pork satay set (all plated beautifully)
- The dining room is a glass house by the Ping River, so breakfast felt slow and calm in a good way

What some people may not love:
- It’s not a huge “everything on earth” buffet
- More curated, more quality, less quantity

Fine dining: Oxygen Dining Room (Michelin Guide recommended)
Dinner was beautiful and delicious. The style felt like modern French with local Chiang Mai ideas, and every dish looked like it was made for photos.

Expectation vs reality (service speed):
- Food quality: worth it
- Timing: slow when many tables started together
- My dinner took almost 2.5 hours

Friend-to-friend tips:
- Plan this as a long dinner (2–3 hours), not a quick meal
- Not great if you have small kids who hate sitting long
- Price is “fine dining real,” so yes… you may look at the bill and think about instant noodles next month 😂

------------------------------------------------------
🧩 How the hotel solved a small problem
------------------------------------------------------
I didn’t have a big issue during my stay. But I did have small requests (extra pillows, extra water), and they handled them quickly without me needing to chase. That made the whole stay feel smooth.

- Quick response to simple requests
- No “please call again later” feeling

------------------------------------------------------
📍 Location notes – important to know
------------------------------------------------------
The hotel is on the Ping River side (Charoen Rat Road area). It’s quieter than the Night Bazaar zone, but still close enough to drive into town easily.

- Around 15–20 minutes from Chiang Mai Airport by car
- Outside road can be busy in the evening, but inside the brick gate is very quiet
- Some famous local food spots are walkable nearby (great if you don’t want to drive)

If you’re visiting from Malaysia, India, Taiwan, or Hong Kong:
- This is an easy “city stay” without feeling stuck in a noisy city hotel
- You can stay in, eat well, swim, and still reach town fast when you want

------------------------------------------------------
⚖️ Compared with other luxury riverside hotels – where this one stands
------------------------------------------------------
In Chiang Mai, people often compare a few “riverside luxury” styles. Here’s how I felt:

- Raya Heritage: craft, textiles, homey riverside calm (very “soft” mood)
- Na Nirand: romantic, Thai-colonial storybook vibe
- The Chiang Mai Riverside: all-suite and quiet, but more minimal and “straight” mood
- Cross: bold red brick + modern lines + rooftop pool + strong food focus

If you like design that feels modern and dramatic (but still calm inside), Cross has a clear personality.

------------------------------------------------------
😅 Who might not enjoy it
------------------------------------------------------
I liked the stay a lot, but it’s not for everyone.

- If you need an ultra-soft mattress that you sink into, you may find the bed a bit firm
- If you want a huge resort with many pools and big kids’ facilities, this is more boutique
- If you hate long fine dining dinners, the dinner pace (on busy nights) may test your patience
- If your trip goal is “cheap and super value,” this is more “pay for the experience”

------------------------------------------------------
⭐ One more night?
------------------------------------------------------
Yes — I really wanted one more night here.

Because it matched almost everything I wanted:
- Strong design, but still restful
- Riverside calm, even with the city nearby
- Breakfast that felt truly thoughtful
- Small details and service that made me feel “seen”

What I hope they improve:
- Smoother pacing at fine dining when many tables start at the same time
- A slightly softer bed feel (even a topper would change everything)

------------------------------------------------------
🏛️ A bit about the brand / design story (short & easy)
------------------------------------------------------
This hotel used to be called X2 Chiang Mai Riverside Resort (read: “Cross-to”), before the brand name became “Cross.” The architecture was designed with clear Chiang Mai references — especially the brick walls and the Wat Umong-inspired lines — but done in a modern way. It’s the kind of place where you can enjoy design even if you’re not a “design person.”

------------------------------------------------------
📊 Nerd Zone – quick hotel facts for comparison lovers
------------------------------------------------------
- Hotel: Cross Chiang Mai Riverside (formerly X2 Chiang Mai Riverside Resort)
- Room I stayed: Grand Suite River View
- Address: 369/1 Charoen Rat Road, Wat Ket, Chiang Mai
- Check-in / check-out: 3:00 PM / 12:00 PM (from the hotel’s official info)
- Airport: about 10 km, roughly 15–20 minutes by car (normal traffic)
- Breakfast style: a la carte (all-you-can-eat) + sparkling wine (hotel info)
- Extra: daily 5 PM drop-off service to the Night Market (and weekend walking street)
