A day trip from Bangkok to Khao Yai is easily doable. The one-way journey takes about 2.5-3 hours, so a round trip would be 5-6 hours. If you leave early in the morning, around 6:00-7:00 AM, you'll have 6-8 hours to explore Khao Yai before returning to Bangkok around 7:00-8:00 PM.
Here's a complete one-day itinerary for foreign tourists:
Morning: Departure + Nature
1. 6:30 AM Depart Bangkok - Rent a private car with driver/rent a van with driver via the Friendship Highway to Pak Chong (180-200 km). 2. 9:30 AM Arrive at Khao Yai National Park - Entrance fee 350 THB/person • Pha Trom Jai viewpoint: Enjoy the mountain and forest views, cool air, and beautiful photo opportunities. • Heo Suwat Waterfall: Easy hike, the most famous waterfall in Khao Yai. If there are elderly people in the group, avoid Haew Narok Waterfall because it's steep and a 1 km walk.
Late Morning - Noon: Cafe + European-style Farm
3. 11:00 AM Primo Piazza - A Tuscan-style village in Italy. Feed Merino sheep and donkeys. Take photos that look like you're abroad. 4. 12:30 PM Lunch - Chokchai Farm, the largest farm in Thailand. Watch cattle and horse farming, eat quality steak + Chokchai ice cream, or visit Baan Nok Kok Na Cafe, a rice field cafe with a local atmosphere, serving butterfly pea coffee + Korat stir-fried noodles.
Afternoon: Popular photo spots
5. 2:00 PM Hokkaido Flower Park Khaoyai - Purple verbena and silosia flower fields with mountain views, Hokkaido feel. 6. 3:30 PM Take Me Home Park - Giant airplane and indoor cafe, a great place to escape the heat and take photos. 7. 4:00 PM Giant white Buddha statue + Haew Narok Waterfall - A landmark popular with foreign tourists.
Evening: Return journey
8. 5:00 PM Depart Khao Yai, arriving back in Bangkok around 8:00 PM to avoid traffic. Other options if you like adventure/families: • Nong Phak Chi Wildlife Observation Tower - Hike, chance to see deer. • Khao Yai Thiang Windmills - Enjoy the view, bicycle rental (40 baht). • Toscana Valley - Pastel-colored European village, stroll around and take photos. • Ban Tha Chang Spring - Stop for a swim before returning. Tips for Foreigners • Transportation: Renting a car with a driver/van for the day is the most convenient. • Timing: Leave as early as possible. Khao Yai has nice weather in the morning, but it's hot in the afternoon. • Season: Check the waterfalls before you go, as some periods have low water levels. • Budget: There are tours available for 900 THB/adult that include a VIP vehicle and breakfast.
If you want a more relaxed trip, choose just 3-4 places: National Park + Primo Piazza + Chokchai Farm + a flower cafe – that will fill your day.
