European Design Stories

European Design Stories We collect stories in contemporary design and creative projects in Europe. We don’t limit ourselves by any particular design field.

European Design Stories represents an international curatorial project documenting stories in works by selected original creators. We are collectors of intimate moments in creative processes, ways of thinking, or working and living environments that best capture the narratives of final things. No matter if it is an individual designer, studio, brand or craftsman. We seek various approaches in cont

emporary design that respond to current issues in particular countries or in the society in general nowadays. Thus our aim is to present design as a remarkable dynamic mover and an instrument, which enhances our lives. We travel throughout Europe and use various forms of new medias to catch both carefully selected and totally random stories. At the same time we cooperate with an extended international team of contributors composed of established European curators and writers to cover also broader topics in contemporary design. Apart from the online platform, exhibitions, screenings, lectures and prints are to be expected. Creative team: OKOLO (Adam Štěch, Jan Kloss, Matěj Činčera) and guests (Jan Rybák, Tomáš Souček, Darina Zavadilová)
Producer: designSUPERMARKET

Co-funded by the Creative Europe programme of the European Union.

Many experiences and projects bond us with Carlo Mollino. That is thanks to our friend Fulvio Ferrari, collector, design enthusiast and curator of Casa Mollino.

This time, Ferrari guided us through the interior of the residence rife with legends and kept telling stories about this phenomenal designer, architect, pilot, skier, car racer and photographer.

Since 1882 and over several generations, Gervasoni 1882 brand has been producing high-quality furniture, which was designed in the twentieth century by Italian masters such as Vico Magistretti and Paola Navone. A couple of years ago, the owners of the brand decided to found a new label Very Wood, to produce custom-made contemporary furniture.

"We made these objects from MDF, which is basically a wood paste, and they also react to Wood's lamp. So it was wood and wood and we liked the idea of having a double name - like Duran Duran - but it felt incomplete. And then we remembered the music project called Duran Duran Duran, so we thought Wood Wood Wood would be perfect name for the collection."

"The idea was that this kind of objects could be in your place and whenever they are needed, you can just pick them up. In a way, we spend our lives taking care of objects, so why can’t objects take care of us?"

Francesca Lanzavecchia from Lanzavecchia + Wai Design Studio sums up their award-winning collection of furniture and accessories No Country for Old Men.

Partners in life and business at once. That is designer studio Zaven, which has consisted of Enrica Cavarzan and Marco Zavagno since 2006.

We met them in their stunning industrial studio in Mestre and asked about the advantages of being a designer in Venice and dividing their efforts between product and graphic design.

During our trip to Ljubljana we could not have missed the visit of the main attraction of the Vitanje.

Cultural Space Programme centre, or KSEVT was founded in honour of Herman Potočnik Noordung, renowned scientist and thinker. He wrote about space travel long before the humanity was equipped with the technology to facilitate it.
