Tashkent, Uzbekistan, successfully hosted MRO Central Asia: Engines on November 25, marking the region's first specialized conference dedicated exclusively to aero engine maintenance, underscoring the growing strategic importance of engine MRO capabilities in Central Asia. The landmark event saw the instrumental support and partnership of leading industry giants, including GE Aerospace, CFM International, Uzbekistan Airways Technics, and Rolls-Royce, drawing over 150 specialists. The conference laid the groundwork for future specialized gatherings by featuring a program rich with expert presentations, strategic discussions, and technical insights. Jamoliddin Nazarov, Head of the Air Transport Department at the Ministry of Transport, opened the event, emphasizing the critical need to develop engine maintenance expertise to support the region's rapidly expanding fleets and its ambition to become a major transit and technical-services hub connecting Europe and Asia.
The event’s sessions dove deep into crucial industry topics, from technological shifts and the influence of new-generation engines on maintenance planning (discussed by speakers from GE Aerospace , CFM International , and Rolls-Royce ) to operational optimization and regulatory best practices. High-level panels, including the final discussion moderated by Timur Perkov (Qanot Sharq), examined Central Asia's potential as a transit and maintenance hub, focusing on leveraging digital analytics and AI to enhance engine health management and reduce unscheduled removals. Experts from companies like Lufthansa Technik , Hanwha Aviation , and AIESL provided detailed insights into expanding maintenance capabilities and addressing the global engine shortage. The collaborative spirit demonstrated throughout the day reinforced the strong momentum and commitment to localizing repair capabilities, establishing training centers, and strengthening technical expertise across the Central Asian aviation sector.
