Ng Lihui had never driven a bus, but on 14 September, she climbed into the driver’s seat of service 854 and brought it to a stop.

A TTS bus captain had fallen ill and become unresponsive as the bus approached a stop along Hougang Avenue 3. Lihui found the handbrake with the help of a small sticker beside it: “For Safety: Handbrake On”.

Yesterday, Minister of State for Transport Baey Yam Keng 马炎庆 thanked her, and the two others who helped:
- Ngee Ann Polytechnic accountancy student Neo Ying Ying ran to check on the bus captain and called SCDF. She stayed with him until the ambulance arrived, together with Lihui and another passenger.
- Mr Toh Tiong Huat, an SBS Transit Ltd bus captain who was driving the bus behind bus service 854, also got out of his vehicle to advise Lihui how to reach TTS’ control centre.

Every bus is a community on wheels. We may not know one another by name, but when someone needs help, that community comes together. Their actions embody the spirit of the Caring SG Commuters movement and we would like to thank Lihui, Ying Ying, Mr Toh, and everyone else who stepped in to help.

TTS is still looking for two people: the commuter at the bus stop who banged on the door to raise the alarm, and the passenger who helped Ying Ying and Lihui. If that’s you, please contact TTS at [email protected]. We’d love to say thank you.

Inspired by their response, TTS will sponsor up to 50 volunteer Caring Commuter Champions to attend a pilot workshop on emergency response in a public bus setting. We hope their actions will inspire more to step forward to offer help to others in need.

TTS is aware of an accident that took place at the bus stop at block 790 Yishun Ave 2 at about 3:05pm today. A TTS-operated bus on service 853 rear-ended service 852 causing a chain collision with service 851 (both operated by SBS Transit). 6 passengers have reported injuries. Our team is on site and tending to the injured. If you or a family member were injured in the accident, please contact us at 1800 248 0950. The road remains passable to traffic. We will provide more information when available.

Update (4:55pm): 3 people have been conveyed to the hospital and we’re trying to make contact with them to extend our care and support. We’re really sorry for the hurt and inconvenience this has caused all the passengers, bus captains and road users who were involved. We’re also working closely with the traffic police, LTA and SBS Transit to support investigations. [🚌 Tengah: Two More Morning Trips for City Direct Service 674]

From Tuesday, 13 October 2026, City Direct Service 674 will have two additional morning trips to the C*D, with morning service extended by 10 minutes to 8.10am.

Some residents had given feedback on later morning options, so we followed this up with LTA. We hope the additional trips will give residents who leave a little later in the morning some added flexibility.

Thank you to residents for the kind patience, and to Land Transport Authority – We Keep Your World Moving and Tower Transit Singapore for working with us on the feedback and making this adjustment.

Do look out for the updated service information at Tengah bus stops in the coming weeks.

A little awareness can help someone find their way home safely. 💚🚌

After clocking off from his shift, Kok Soon noticed an elderly commuter at Woodlands Interchange who appeared lost and unsure of where to go.

Instead of walking past, he stopped to check on her, noticed her dementia identification lanyard and reached out to her family before accompanying her to a nearby bus stop to reunite with them.

If you notice someone who may need help on their journey, remember: observe, check for identification and reach out.

Taking the time to notice could make all the difference to someone and their loved ones.
