Meet Dr Erich Schaller. As a navy veteran he combines his personal seafaring experirnce with his faith to volunteer with Stella Maris in the Jacksonville port. If you should visit their Seafarers Center, expect a warm welcome!

Meet The Rev’d Grace Pardun. Within our Maritime Ministry course she reminds us that there are countless Mariners working the waterways which remain transport arteries of our modern world. Based in Paducah, more or less the middle point of the USA, she works for The Seamen’s Church Institute. In addition to providing training for chaptains etc, they provide pastoral care and support for Mariners. Expect a warm welcome.

Meet Fr. Ian Hutchinson Cervantes. He is the Regional Director for The Mission to Seafarers for the Latin America and Caribbean region. For this he is based in Panama. In addition to the coordination of the care and support for Seafarers, he supports and accompanies those from his region through the specific Maritime Ministry course we are attending in Houston. Be assured, if you visit their Ports you can expect a warm welcome.

Meet Javier Rivera. A dedicated and inquisitive volunteer in the Galveston Port, he gives freely of his time volunteering with Stella Maris. Should you bump into him in Galveston Seafarers Center, expect a warm welcome.

Meet Fr Francis Makut. He supports the work in Corpus Christi International Seafarers Center through his work with Stella Maris. While he also takes care of Parish work, he is an open and available chaplain. Expect a warm welcome if you visit their port.

Meet Dr Keith Jones. He has taken on the responsibility of managing the chaplaincy at Port Arthur. He bring wide experience teaching in various disciplines. Now he joins us to learn more about caring for Seafarers as a new practitioner. Expect a warm welcome in Port Arthur.

Meet Jack O’Malley. Origionally from Maryland he is now volunteering at the Seattle Seafarers Center. He is giving a year of his life through Jesuit volunteer program. If you should encounter him when you visit the port in Seattle you can expect a warm welcome!

Meet Dr Christopher Graham. As the Assistant Director of NAMMA (North American Maritime Ministry Association) he has played a critical part in arranging and facilitating the Maritime Ministry course which we are attending this week. Interestingly NAMMA, which was founded in 1932, worked with the World Council of Churches to inspire the founding of ICMA in 1969.

Meet Bishop Frank Schuster. He is Bishop promoter for Stella Maris. He preached the homily during our Morning Prayer, and then addressed us on the topic of “Spiritual Vision for Maritime Ministry”. He spoke to us of “Spiritual Optometry”, seeing with the eyes of God. God give us Grace to see each seafarer we meet with the deep love with which God sees both us and them.

Meet Shane Moore, working as Chaplain for The Mission to Seafarers in North-East England. While opperating as chaplain in the ports of Teesport, Hartlepool, Tyne and Blyth. In addition he is also the area manager for entire North Eastern Coast. If you are visiting you can expect a warm welcome!
