🇵🇹 The AIMA Complaint Channel has Opened!

🧑‍⚖️ Portuguese Bar Association (OA) has launched a new online system recently for lawyers to complain or give suggestions about AIMA’s poor service.

📨 Complaints will be sent directly to AIMA through the Bar Association.

😤 OA President João Massano said AIMA gets the most complaints from lawyers — even more than IRN offices!

⚖️ The goal 👉 To fix delays, improve communication, and make AIMA’s rules the same across all regions.

📉 Hope is that this move will reduce court cases caused by AIMA’s slow response.

🇵🇹 New Nationality Law Sent to Belém Palace ⚖️

The revised Nationality Law and a decree on loss of nationality as a penalty have been sent to President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa. 🏛️

Key points:
✅ Longer deadlines for foreigners to get Portuguese nationality
✅ Restricts nationality by birth in Portugal
✅ Loss of nationality for those sentenced to 4+ years in prison

The laws were approved by PSD, Chega, IL, CDS-PP, and JPP, despite opposition from the left parties.

Right of Residency by AIMA

Esclarecimento: Direito de Residência

A AIMA esclarece que o direito de residência do cidadão estrangeiro mantém-se até 6 meses após a data de validade do Cartão de Autorização de Residência (conforme previsto no art.º 63.º, n.º 14 do Decreto Regulamentar n.º 84/2007).

Os cidadãos estrangeiros nacionais de países que não pertencem à União Europeia e que ainda não tenham efetuado o pedido de renovação da residência, só passam a estar em situação irregular em território português nas seguintes situações:

📅 **6 meses a contar do dia 15 de outubro de 2025** para os cartões caducados **até 30 de junho de 2025**, mantendo-se o **direito de residência até 15 de abril de 2026**.

📅 **6 meses a contar da data de validade** dos cartões caducados **após 30 de junho de 2025**.

Os cidadãos estrangeiros que já iniciaram o pedido de renovação de autorização de residência junto da AIMA deverão fazer-se acompanhar do título caducado, assim como do recibo comprovativo de que o pedido de renovação já foi efetuado.

Clarification: Right of Residence

AIMA clarifies that the right of residence of foreign citizens remains valid for up to 6 months after the expiry date of the Residence Permit Card ( Article 63 (14) of Regulatory Decree No. 84/2007).

Foreign citizens from countries outside the European Union who have not yet applied for renewal of their residence permit will only be in an irregular situation in the following situations:

📅**6 months from 15 October 2025** for cards that expired **by 30 June 2025** and the right of residence **maintains valid until 15 April 2026**.

📅 **6 months from the expiry date** of cards that expire **after 30 June 2025**.

Foreign citizens who have already applied to renew their residence permit must bring their expired permit with them, as well as proof that the renewal application has been made.

AIMA warns that **appointment form for U.E. Residence Permit Card under Article 15. the ** is intended only to **FAMILY FAMILIES of citizens of the European Union, who must hold a Certificate of Permanent Registration of a Citizen of the EU or a Residence Permission Card**.

Thus, the Residence Permission Card Number required in the form is the number of the family member of a European Union citizen who already has a valid title.

**Note: The European Union Citizenship Registration Certificate is issued by the local authority where you live and not by the AIMA.

A AIMA alerta que o **formulário de pedido de agendamento para Cartão de Autorização de Residência U.E. ao abrigo do artigo 15.º **destina-se apenas aos **FAMILIARES de cidadãos da União Europeia, sendo que estes têm de ser titulares de Certificado de Registo Permanente de Cidadão da UE ou de Cartão de Autorização de Residência**.

Assim, o Número do Cartão de Autorização de Residência exigido no formulário é o número do familiar de cidadão da União Europeia que já possui título válido.

**Nota:** O Certificado de Registo de cidadão da União Europeia é emitido pela autarquia onde vive e não pela AIMA.

The Portuguese government has finally responded to long delays in nationality approvals 😮

Secretary of State Emídio Sousa said 50 new staff are being hired to fix the backlog — especially in Lisbon 🇵🇹

Many Portuguese abroad had to wait months or even a year for confirmation 😩

Sousa promised the issue will end soon, saying every child of a Portuguese citizen deserves equal treatment 💪

💶 P*P Demands €1,050 Minimum Wage by 2026! 🇵🇹

The Portuguese Communist Party (P*P) wants the minimum wage raised to €1,050 next year instead of the government’s plan of €920 💥

P*P also proposed a 5% pension increase (at least €75) and a €12 daily meal allowance for workers 🍽️

The party says public workers have lost over 20% of their purchasing power since 2010 and deserve a minimum €150 salary raise 💪

But the Labour Minister insists — the government’s plan is fixed, aiming for €970 in 2027 and €1,020 in 2028 📈
