Damaged at the FC? Check Reimbursement Before Removal. 📦
Removing damaged FBA inventory before establishing responsibility can cost you a valid reimbursement claim.
Before creating a removal order, check three things:
🔹 Who caused the damage? Determine whether it occurred during Amazon’s handling, inbound transportation, preparation, or another stage. Responsibility affects the claim route and the evidence required.
🔹 What evidence supports the claim? Record the affected ASINs, quantities, available shipment and inventory records, damage details, and relevant photographs or documentation. Keep evidence linked to the specific units and incident.
🔹 Is the inventory eligible for reimbursement? Review the applicable Amazon Seller Central policy for the relevant EU marketplace. Confirm the claim procedure, submission deadline, exclusions, and required documentation before acting.
Once responsibility and eligibility are established, submit the claim through the applicable process and retain the supporting records. Plan the removal after checking the claim requirements and documenting the inventory condition.
Claim windows and eligibility can vary by marketplace, damage scenario, and current Amazon policy. Verify the applicable rules before quoting a deadline or assuming reimbursement is available.
The operational consequence is straightforward: removing units before checking their status can weaken your evidence trail and leave recoverable inventory value unclaimed.
For FBA sellers, damaged-stock handling affects more than storage space. It also affects inventory recovery, disposal or removal costs, and the margin retained on each unit.
Before removing damaged stock, has your team verified responsibility, evidence, and claim eligibility?
