BUSINESS INCOME: TAXPAYERS MUST MAINTAIN BOOKS OF ACCOUNT FOR 6 YEARS

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has made it mandatory for the taxpayers, earning income from business, to maintain books of account, documents and records for a period of six years as compared to existing five years. The FBR has amended Income Tax Rules, 2002 through an S.R.O. 1149(I)/2015 issued here on Wednesday. Through this amendment, the books of account, documents and records would be maintained for six years after the end of the tax year to which they relate.

NO NEW DUTIES IMPOSED ON IMPORT OF SOLAR PANELS: FBR

FBR strongly dispelled the impression that the new duties/taxes have been imposed on the import of solar panels in budget (2014-15).FBR has clarified that the customs duty and sales tax would be charged at statutory rate on the import of some specific parts of solar panel which are identifiable as being manufactured locally in view of the request of the indigenous engineering industry.

FBR has also directed the concerned Model Customs Collectorates that all the impugned consignments would be released against the written undertaking by the importers that they would also bring necessary clarification from the Engineering Development Board that the instant imported solar panels are not manufactured locally.

Under the previous SRO.575(I)/2006, the condition of locally manufactured goods was not applicable on import of Solar Panels and allied equipment. However, this condition is now applicable in terms of Fifth Schedule of Customs Act, 1969 and Sixth Schedule of Sales Tax Act, 1990… (Business Recorder 27.07.2014)
