UPDATE | M/V DEVON BAY

The cargo vessel M/V Devon Bay capsized in the South China Sea while en route from the Philippines to China.

The vessel reportedly began listing at about 25 degrees late on January 22, 2026, before eventually capsizing in waters northwest of Scarborough Shoal (also called Bajo de Masinloc). The ship had 21 Filipino crew members on board and was carrying iron ore cargo.

The exact cause of the capsizing has not been officially detailed in initial reports, but the vessel’s sudden list and loss of stability appear to have been critical factors leading to the casualty.

So far, 17 have been rescued, 2 were confirmed dead, search and rescue operations continue.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the crew, their families, and all those involved in the rescue efforts🙏
