Chances are you've seen photos of people bathing elephants or snuggling with a tiger cub on social media. But too often, these experiences with exotic animals rely on abusive training or treatment. In this photo, an injured four-year-old elephant named Gluay Hom languishes underneath a performance stadium in Thailand. Chill Summer Get Away at Anilao! 🌊

Our own private house with a mini pool overlooking the sea surrounded by friends and booze while enjoying the breeze and an amazing sunset. 🌅

We rented out Anilao Beach House for the weekend as we all wanted a "chill trip" without any itineraries but Anilao surprised us with a secret white beach, gorgeous sunset and shallow coral reefs teeming with marine life that even non-divers can enjoy.

Read more for details:

📌How to book Anilao Beach House
📍We book the place via Facebook.
https://m.facebook.com/anilaobeachhouse/
Price: 10,000PHP rent for the whole place good for 15pax

📌How to go to Anilao Beach House
📍Anilao Beach house is located at Anilao near the major resorts.
📍Route: Manila > SLEX > Star tollway > Anilao
📍We rented a van for the trip as there are 10 of us. Renting a van is more convenient and cost efficient for us.
📍Price: 6,000 van rent (self drive)
1,500 gas (we got stuck in traffic)
650 toll (2 way)

📍Once you have secured booking at Anilao Beach House, they will provide detailed directions on how to go to the house - the owner and caretakers are very accommodating with questions.

📌Budget Breakdown for 10 pax
Anilao Beach House: 10,000
Van x Gas x Toll: 8,150
Food and Booze: 5,000
Island Hopping: 3,300
Entrance to Carmico Island: 100/pax
Snorkel Gear Rent: 150/pc
Total per pax: 2,895PHP

📌Tips:
📍C H I L L! 😊
The place is really homey and the terrace at the 2nd floor is very inviting and the mini pool is so fun to stay at!
📍Do island hopping! You are just 20 minutes away from clear blue waters, school of fish and corals. We went to Carmico island and the back of Sombrero island to do snorkeling. We did not go to Sombrero as there is a fee of 200/head.
📍Yes, you can cook at Anilao Beach House. You can use their kitchen with complete cookwares and dining wares. So we did not bring any pans or dining utensils. Also, caretaker, Kuya Vic, is very helpful and accommodating. If you need anything bought, he will happily assist.
📍1st 5 gallons of water is free. You can buy additional for 40php per 5 gallons
📍No wifi - disconnect to connect!
📍No air conditioning - but sea breeze is very refreshing and cool
📍Plenty of extra mattresses and pillows. No blankets. Bring your own.
📍Bring insect repellent.

After this trip, we all wanted a house with a mini pool overlooking the sea. It was very relaxing and fun! Anilao truly surprised us! We will definitely go back.

So, you want to be a long-term traveller?

If you think this is what people call comfort zone, you’re wrong, because by doing this you will find out who you are but most importantly who you are not and who you’ll never be.

If you don’t know how it is to stay in the middle of the road without a map, if you have never let yourself get lost into the wilderness without a chance to be saved by someone else instead of you, stay home.

If you’re afraid you’ll lose the best pieces of advice from your friends, their calls, the late night meetings, their laughter when something goes wrong, your mother’s voice, your father’s caress, your siblings’ bundle of joy, don’t do it.

If you think you will never be able to have a serious relationship while on the road but only love affairs without a happy ending, if you think love is just an old school concept, too staind and dispassionate for this new century, don’t do it.

If it doesn’t get easier to say ‘goodbye’ and ‘see you soon’ in front of every airport, railway station, hippie van, boat, ship or sailboat from this world forget about it.

But if you suddenly start feeling hungry for change and foolishness, if notions like “that isn’t possible” make you grin from ear to ear while making your backpack lighter then wait patiently.

If you never felt the urge of running to the nearest train station and leave all your clothes at home do something else.

If you think it’s nonessential to explore the world and discover new cultures, if you don’t want to learn new languages and develop new skills, you’re not ready.

When it is truly time you will wake up one morning, take your backpack, open the door,
leave the maps in the drawers and the keys in your pocket, and without thinking too much
you will travel until you die or the world ends while you’re doing it.

Because my dear long-term traveler
there is no other way
and there never was.

As that movie goes, “Where do broken hearts go? Sa Sagada” It can also be the other way around. “Where do you go to fall in love? Sa Sagada.” 🌲We fell in love with the nature, the food and the people. After 3 years, we decided to go back into the arms of Sagada. 💚

There is really something about the Mountain Province that I couldn’t quite put a finger on; the energy is different and you go back to the city recharged and inspired. And we hope we can preserve that beauty by being a responsible traveller. ☺️

Read more below on our DIY Sagada Trip
📌How to go to Sagada
There are now many ways on how you can reach Sagada, but on our 2nd time we opted for option 1 as we have already been to Banaue and Batad.
📍Option 1: Coda Lines
Currently, it’s the only bus line that goes directly to Sagada town. We opted for the Semi Deluxe (No CR) and we purchased roundtrip tickets via online booking in their website.

Price: 720PHP (one way)

Stop over: 3 stop overs: Tarlac, Nueva Vizcaya and Banaue

The bus leaves on time and we also arrived in Sagada on time. It’s an 11 to 12 hours trip, depending on traffic, so be prepared.

📍Option 2: Ohayami Bus to Banaue > Van to Sagada (We did this route back in 2015 as we wanted to do a side trip in Banaue)

📌Where We Stayed
Kanip-Aw Pines View Lodge

Price: 300/per pax per night

Contact Details: Kuya Oscar – 09266092960

Location: Near Lemon Pie House and Sagada Hub

Whenever anyone of us are in Sagada, we always stay with Kuya Oscar as he is very accommodating and his lodging have a good view to wake up in the morning.

📌Where We Went
Disclaimer: We only went to a handful of location as we are really in Sagada for a shoot and we explored only on our 1st and 2nd day

Church of St. Mary the Virgin
Echo Valley
Hanging Coffins
Entrance to Underground River
Blue Soil
Sumaging Cave
Marlboro Country
Sagada Bonfire Location
Kiltepan Peak
Magic Bus

📌Itinerary is posted in the album (last photo) for detailed information

📌Budget Breakdown (per pax – 5pax in this trip)
Transportation: 1,440 (RT bus via Coda Lines)
Accommodation: 900 (4d/3n)
Tourism Fee: 40
Sagada Tours: 520 per pax (breakdown below)
Echo Valley Tour: 600 guide fee (120 per pax)
Blue Soil x Sumaging Cave (with van): 2,000 guide and van fee (400 per pax)
Food x Pocket Money: 2,000 (varies per preference)
Total: 4,900PHP per pax (4d/3n)

📌Travel Tips:
📍Almost all of the locations you will go to will require hiking – prepare water and good foot wear

📍Prepare for Sagada weather. It was February when we travelled and temperature dropped to 15 degrees at night and in the mornings and atleast 20 degrees at noon.

📍Do Sagada on a DIY trip – highly recommended. We have seen a lot of tours that offer Sagada trips but we think that the beauty of Sagada is not only in its scenic spots but also in its slow paced nature that you will enjoy once you travel at your pace.

📍Be a responsible traveller and help preserve the beauty of nature

17/02/2018

I am not a spontaneous person so I don't like unplanned anything but the boyfriend is a "let's just wing it" kind of guy - possibly a recipe for disaster but our latest trip to La Union was a spur of the moment thing and it's one of the best trips we had.

We have no reservations, no itinerary - nothing is planned. All we agreed about is that we will leave Manila at 5AM and drive to La Union. I was agitated at first but as we leave the busy streets of Manila and cruise traffic free to SCTEX my worries melted away and somehow I believed him that everything will turn out okay for us.

📌Where we stayed
We found the coziest nook to stay in La Union during our last minute place hunting and it's super cute - not to mention they have really good selfie lighting. We stayed at Offshore 183.
We really love this place and would definitely stay here again when we go back to La Union!
Caretaker is super nice and accommodating.

📍How to find Offshore 183:
It's conveniently located across El Union coffee! You will find Nak Nak store and beside it there is a gate with a tarpaulin saying "Lodging Available" ring the doorbell and a very friendly caretaker will assist you. You may contact Offshore 183 via there page.

📍How Much:
Between the two of us, we paid 2,800PHP.
But the room is good for 3 pax as they have 3 separate beds.
You can rent the whole place for 5,000PHP only good for 7pax!

📍Offshore 183 Amenities
So when you rent Offshore 183 - you will have the whole place to your selves! Yes! The whole place.
They have the following:
2 AC Room - max of 7 pax
Dining area with microwave, water heater and utensils (you're not allowed to cook)
CR
Living room
Parking area
Rooftop deck

📌How to go to La Union (Private Car)
We didn't take TPLEX route as it's kinda pricey and it's still early in the morning and no traffic yet. Si we took the NLEX - SCTEX route exit at La Paz and then to Marcos Hi Way going to La Union.

📌Budget Breakdown
Gas Money: 2,500
Toll: 350 (one way NLEX - SCTEX La Paz Exit)
Accommodation: 2,800
Food: 2,000 (varies per preference)

📌Travel Tips:

📍 Leave Manila early to avoid the traffic! If check in at your hotel is still after lunch, there are a bunch of chill/hang out spot in La Union you can check out.

📍Go to Tangadan Falls. It's a different side of La Union plus the water is extra cold and refreshing! (Review not in this post as we went there last year)

📍Try a spontaneous trip to La Union! It's fun and liberating - especially if you are like me who is planning obsessed! 😉

CDO x Camiguin

After our canyoneering adventure, we wanted to experience more adrenaline pumped activity! So we went to CDO and Camiguin and checked off river rafting and the island born of fire on our list!

📌CDO x Camiguin Tour
We were a group of 10 pax for our trip so we decided to coordinate with a tour group as it's more convenient, hassle free and economical for us. Also, as we are a large group, we created our own itinerary so it was kinda like a DIY experience only with a serviced transportation. 😉

Tour arrangement: The Loft Inn
Cost: 4,500 per pax
Inclusion of tour:
Room accommodation in CDO x Camiguin
Entrance Fees
Land, sea and airport transfer
Van, gas and driver
Pumpboat Rental
White Water Rafting - Beginner's Course (we upgraded to advance for 600php per pax)
Multicab Tour - Camiguin

📌How to go to CDO and Camiguin
Manila to CDO via PAL (1 hour)
CDO to Camiguin via van x RoRo (3.5 hours)
Cost: 2,500 per pax RT ticket MNL-CDO-MNL

📌Where We Went
CDO River Rafting - Advance Course
Camiguin Tour
Mantigue Island
Giant Clam Sanctuary
Sunken Cemetery
Soda Spring
White Island
You might be wondering why we only get to see 5 spots in Camiguin, well our friend had an island proposal at Mantigue Island so majority of our time was spent on that beautiful island. (Post to follow!)

📌Budget Breakdown (per pax)
Airfare: 2,500PHP
Tour: 4,500PHP
Food x Pocket Money: 4,000PHP (varies per preference)
Total: 11,000PHP

📌Itinerary: We saved the excel itinerary in the album for a more detailed description

📌Travel tips:

📍Do the advance rafting course! It's longer and you get to experience more amazing rapids. It's worth the cost - so much fun!

📍Wear sunblock and/or rashguard during river rafting. It's a 5 hours rafting under the heat of the sun. There are very minimal shade at the river.

📍Do the Giant Clam snorkelling - not only will you see giant clams underwater but they also preserve different kinds of corals, it was a truly majestic sight.

📍If you will stay at the Loft Inn, don't expect too much, it's basically your standard accommodation in the city. But the organizer, Nikka, is very accommodating and nice on out requests.

📌Read photo captions for more information! We will definitely go back and experience Bukidnon.

22/12/2017

"I'd like to repeat the advice that I gave you before, in that I think you really should make a radical change in your lifestyle and begin to boldly do things which you may previously never have thought of doing, or been too hesitant to attempt. So many people live within unhappy circumstances and yet will not take the initiative to change their situation because they are conditioned to a life of security, conformity, and conservatism, all of which may appear to give one peace of mind, but in reality nothing is more damaging to the adventurous spirit within a man than a secure future. The very basic core of a man's living spirit is his passion for adventure. The joy of life comes from our encounters with new experiences, and hence there is no greater joy than to have an endlessly changing horizon, for each day to have a new and different sun.

If you want to get more out of life, Ron, you must lose your inclination for monotonous security and adopt a helter-skelter style of life that will at first appear to you to be crazy. But once you become accustomed to such a life you will see its full meaning and its incredible beauty. And so, Ron, in short, get out of Salton City and hit the Road. I guarantee you will be very glad you did. But I fear that you will ignore my advice. You think that I am stubborn, but you are even more stubborn than me. You had a wonderful chance on your drive back to see one of the greatest sights on earth, the Grand Canyon, something every American should see at least once in his life. But for some reason incomprehensible to me you wanted nothing but to bolt for home as quickly as possible, right back to the same situation which you see day after day after day. I fear you will follow this same inclination in the future and thus fail to discover all the wonderful things that God has placed around us to discover.

Don't settle down and sit in one place. Move around, be nomadic, make each day a new horizon. You are still going to live a long time, Ron, and it would be a shame if you did not take the opportunity to revolutionize your life and move into an entirely new realm of experience.

You are wrong if you think Joy emanates only or principally from human relationships. God has placed it all around us. It is in everything and anything we might experience. We just have to have the courage to turn against our habitual lifestyle and engage in unconventional living.

My point is that you do not need me or anyone else around to bring this new kind of light in your life. It is simply waiting out there for you to grasp it, and all you have to do is reach for it. The only person you are fighting is yourself and your stubbornness to engage in new circumstances."
