Message from the master himself:
Classic Aerobatics Day !!!
Classic and Clubman @ Hamilton MAC 23rd May
A bit of interest at the moment in Classic, especially as we had our platinum sponsor of the NZ Masters, Andreas from HangarOneKits.com with his really cool classic stuff on display. That “Super Sicroly” looked really nice.
I contacted the Hamilton MAC and asked if we can use their site for a day to host a Classic event. Thumbs up they said.
It’s been a while since we held a special “Classic Aerobatics” Day, the last one was at Waharoa a few years back, and it was well attended.
Hamilton is as central as it gets, and I’ve timed this one right before the Tauranga MAC Club auction on Sunday. So if you are heading up for that, now you can come to Hamilton on the way and fly some Classic (Attn: Justin Walley from New Plymouth).
The classic schedule and rules can be found on the downloads page. Click here: Downloads – NZ RC Aerobatics https://www.nzrcaa.co.nz/downloads/
Here’s the criteria for “Classic” in New Zealand. “Any radio-controlled model aircraft that was designed, and prototype flown, prior to the 15th October 1983 - the finish date of the 1983 world championships”
So if you know that Hanno Prettner won that 1983 WC with a Calypso, and you’ve got one, then you will have the ultimate weapon. If you’ve got an Aurora, it actually was after 1983, but we won’t turn you away. But if you roll out a modern contra drive F3A ship (Granny), then we will send you packing. Actually we will hand you the BBQ tools.
Now if you think … hmmm …. I’ve had a look at the classic schedule and …. oooh … really … 3 rolls … all in a row … yikes …. that’s looking a bit too advanced for me, I have a job just handling 2 of them one after the other, and then I almost crash. Do not fear … as well as running the Classic Schedule, we will also be running Clubman. Clubman is as easy as it gets. It’s designed for complete newbies, and you can fly anything you like in Clubman, but of course if you have a Classic Model, and you fly it in Clubman, you will fit in a bit better with the days format, plus you will be in the photo with all the classic models too. Hamilton club guys that can do a roll, and a loop, you have 9 weeks to prepare a valid excuse as of now … I’m sure you can find someone (a mother in law by chance) with a kitchen might that need touching up with some paint, or new hinges.
Classic Themed Apparel … as a bonus … see if you can find some classic gear to wear on the day, so you really fit the part. Anything beige for a start off …. one of those tweed jackets like my social studies teacher wore with the patches on the elbows, walk socks, etc. Start working on your classic attire now so that on the day you can look like a real classic pilot … lets see if you can get so many badges on your old “Kraft Radio” hat, that look like you’re wearing a hub cap !! Extra chocolate fish for those that show up in the classic style. (for some of you this will be easy, just show up in your usual gear right)
