Incident-packed start for Rolex Fastnet Race fleet led to multiple rescues, retirements and one yacht sunk in early stages of the race

The Whakatane Yacht Club has developed a concept to expand its existing Marina to better cater for the future of its members.
Based upon preliminary concepts for an enlarged marina facility, we envisage the following key features:
• An expansion downriver to the Information centre wharf
• An enclosing breakwater that will protect berths from siltation and NE winds that have created hazards to the boats in the past.
• 30 additional recreational vessel berths, ranging from 12 – 18 m.
• Additional security to the survival of the club in the creation of increased scale.
• Construction costs will be funded by the sale of berth licences. Using the same model as the existing marina, the Yacht Club will own and operate the expanded facility.

the Club is seeking interested parties who may be interested in owning a berth in the new facility. At this early stage the cost of ownership has yet to be defined.
If potential berth owners are interested they can express their interest by email to [email protected]
