This season marked our first deployment supporting scientific research aboard RV Araon of the Korea Polar Research Institute (KOPRI).
On the Thwaites Glacier in the Amundsen Sea, our crew and aircraft provided critical aerial support to an international team of scientists from NYU, the British Antarctic Survey and Scripps Institution of Oceanography (UC San Diego). Their objective: drill through 3,000 feet of ice on the “Doomsday Glacier” to reach the ocean beneath. It had not been done before.
The mission attracted global attention, with reporting from the vessel by for and Raymond Zhong with Chang W. Lee, climate reporters for .
As the world watches how Antarctica is responding to climate change, we are proud to have supported the science behind the headlines.
Thank you to our team Dominic O’Rourke, Dan Adams and Danny Little for their professional skills, dedication and hard work on this special expedition.
