BalCan Contemporary

BalCan Contemporary The BCC is designed to connect SE Europe’s fragmentary and often isolated independent (performing) arts scenes focused on social and political concerns.

Despite the common aesthetic values, contacts and collaborations of the South East Europe, the audiences of the Balkan region are often unaware of the existence of a performing art scene, let alone a distinct one. The BCC project intends to create a communication community in an environment comprising of artists, interpretative art field, audience and the horizon of social expectation. The project

activities are:

* BCC newspaper (also available online http://www.balcancancontemporary.net/magazine-issues.php),
* web page (www.balcancancontemporary.net),
* two special issues of the TkH magazine: in 2011 Performance and politics and in 2012 Cultural politics of sharing – p2p production and distribution in performing arts (working titles),
* translations of theoretical and drama texts and essays,
* internship programs,
* education,
* art production, and
* distribution of artworks/creation of the distribution platform. These activities will be implemented in Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia and Kosovo. Artists from these as well as from other European countries will participate in the project, with special interest in successful Balkan emigrants.

Kosovo Theatre Showcase 2026

From 6-8 November 2026, we will meet again in Prizren (Kosovo), for an edition that builds on the tradition of Kosovo Theatre Showcase as an important international theatre platform. This year, however, the Showcase returns in a special format, opening a new chapter in its development.

Alongside the presentation of selected theatre productions created in Kosovo and the region over the past year, this special three-day edition will host a broader conversation on theatre through an international theatre conference under the theme: [DE]CONTAMINATING THE TRUTH: Can Theatre Reconcile the Contradictions Between Truths? If yes, then at what cost?
Among the shows presented will be: Unrecognized, directed by Data Tavadze (Georgia); Kosovo Trilogy in Two Parts, directed by Blerta Neziraj (Kosovo) and They are All Gone directed by Andrej Nosov (Serbia).

Among conference speakers, along over six panel discussions, we expect: Mark Ravenhill (UK), Sebastian Nübling (Germany), Natasha Tripney (UK), Data Tavadze (Georgia), and many others that will be announced soon.
