The purpose of Global Storytellers, a community of worldly storytellers, is to collect, share en save stories for the world and with the world.

Stories can re-imagine the way we live, challenge stereotypes,
pass down wisdom, inspire life and upset the roots of inequality. The Global Storytellers is an online platform in formation where diverse and passionate human beings around the world share and tell stories. (http://globalstorytellers.global)

The Global Storytellers is a celebration and reinvigoration of the

art of storytelling. It is an idea for freedom of access and participation, where storytellers around the world can come together to share this passion and spread this intimacy. With The Global Storytellers platform we want to gather together a global community of storytellers who will use modern technology, but with a desire to intimately connect to another human through sharing their lives, their histories or their truths with the world. Sharing in vulnerability, breaking down perceptions, and by letting go of response and, more importantly, judgment. Together we will bring about a positive disruption in the way we ‘connect’, and our perception of the other. We asked ourselves a few very important questions while creating this platform:
• How can stories address issues of justice through true connection?
• How can we make sure that we are not telling a single story, that we are truly capturing complexity?
• How can we ensure that these stories are widely accessible, valued, and discussed, and that this Global Storytelling fuels change? The movement is specifically and unequivocally committed to telling own stories that spread light, hope, freedom and love, stories that touch the human in us. The Global Storytellers is a platform that feeds initiatives that have a storytelling heart and strives to make the global, local. One of the initiatives is to create global stories in film. The Global Story of Water is the first global story that will see the global light. We conceptualized two other initiatives that are called Cup of Stories and Global Storytellers Market.

A story of leaves

Leaves are usually looked upon as children of the tree. Yes, they are children of the tree, born from the tree, but they are also mothers of the tree. The leaves combine raw sap, water, and minerals, with sunshine and gas, and convert it into a variegated sap that can nourish the tree.

In this way the leaves become the mother of the tree. We are all children of society, but we are also mothers. We have to nourish society. If we are uprooted from society, we cannot transform it into a more livable place for us and for our children. The leaves are linked to the tree by a stem. The stem is very important.

De workshop werd gegeven door Iris Toes en onze eigen Barbara van den Bogaard. De groep ging onder andere aan de slag met freewriting, de mate waarin je je in High Beta (stressmodus) bevindt, het effect daarvan op de connectie met jezelf en hoe je naar een meer ontspannen staat via Beta naar Alpha kunt komen. Er is stilgestaan bij het ontstaan van je levenscript en de (onbewuste) keuzes die je hierdoor in het nu maakt. Om tenslotte te komen tot een innerlijk gedragen verhaal, dat je richting geeft, past bij waar jij voor staat en op basis waarvan je makkelijker keuzes maakt in je dagelijkse (werk)praktijk .

Ook de prachtige plek Plek onder de Bomen heeft enorm bijgedragen aan dit proces. Zodra je het bos inrijdt, ervaar je onmiddellijk rust en ga je als vanzelf vertragen. Hier word je echt in de watten gelegd. Van de smeuïge appeltaart bij ontvangst, de heerlijke zelfgemaakt lunch, de prachtige wandelomgeving tot de open haard die de hele dag gebrand heeft.

HER HANDS By Sana Mulay “Have you ever seen hands like those before?” my grandmother said in disgust. Those hands have probably never touched a keyboard. They’ve never been behind the wheel of a car, or held lots of money. But let me tell you what they’ve done. They’ve cooked thousands of tajins, pealed countless figs and baked fresh bread every morning. They’ve raised a family, consoled neighbours and shook in fists of anger at me when I laughed with my mouth wide open, saying that was not ladylike. Those hands led me to the mosque and taught me how to fold them in prayer, they’ve prayed for me and showed me how to flip through the Quran. They’ve washed my hair after she soaked it with a smelly blob of henna and dried my tears after telling me I look like an ugly cockroach when crying. Those hands wiped her tears when family members passed away and they trembled and shook when she was reciting different suwwaar next to their graves. Sometimes we look at ourselves and we only see sin, shame and regret. Her hands have been the tools she used to embrace life. Hands that can’t even hold a pen or open a bottle anymore, but for me they hold the world and my memories.

OUR LIVES

as storytellers are filled with interesting connections with beautiful people. The idea for Cup of Stories – is to take a daily ritual that is practiced around the world and access that space with a story.

By ordering a cup of stories, you order your coffee, tea or juice, and receive a global story inside the cup; a small story from someone, somewhere on this globe. This is the new age version of a “message in a bottle.” It will hold the same delight, surprise, joy and intimacy like finding a bottle on a beach and reading a message that is deeply personal. The aim is to have a reader feel the closeness of the storyteller, to meet a friend – a family member – another human being – inside a cup of coffee.
