NSITF ZARIA BRANCH ENGAGES NITT MANAGEMENT

The Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology, Zaria today hosted officials from the Nigerian Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF), Zaria branch.

In his remarks, the Director General/ Chief Executive, NITT, Dr Bayero Salih Farah who was represented by the Director, Transport School, Dr. Remi Adewunmi, welcomed the team to the Institute.

He commended the proposed scheme, describing it as laudable, showing Government's goodwill to the workforce, particularly the newly employed staff of the Institute.

Presenting their mission, the Head of Compliance, NSITF, Zaria branch, Mallam Bello Bwala, disclosed that NSITF beneficiaries will enjoy compensation in the event of death, injury, or diseases arising from work, as well as a ninety percent payment of benefits to the children of beneficiaries, till the last child graduates from the university.

He further stated the requirements for registration, noting that the employer would be required to pay a statutory contribution, usually one percent of the employee’s monthly emolument.

Delivering the vote of thanks, the Registrar of the Institute, Dr. Maina W. A Tarfa, thanked the team for the visit, describing the presentation as highly educative.

The highlight of the event was the signing of the visitor's book and presentation of souvenirs.

TRAINING DEPARTMENT ORGANISES TRAIN-THE-TRAINER WORKSHOP

The Training Department of the Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology has commenced a two-day “Train-the-Trainer” sensitisation workshop at the Institute’s auditorium in Zaria.

Declaring the workshop open, the Director-General/Chief Executive of the Institute, Dr. Bayero Salih Farah, represented by the Director of the Transport Technology Centre (TTC), Dr. Joshua A. Odeleye, emphasised the importance of creativity, peer-review sessions, and mentorship among staff in meeting the needs of both internal and external clients.

In his remarks, the Registrar of the Institute, Dr. Maina W. A. Tarfa, commended the department for the initiative and urged participants to make judicious use of the opportunity provided by the workshop.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Director, Training, Mallam Hamisu Dabo Dabai, highlighted the importance of continuous internal staff development to enhance the capacity of personnel to effectively educate the public on the activities and programmes of the Institute.

The Deputy Director, Training, Dr. Susanna Zego, delivered the vote of thanks.

The technical session commenced immediately after the opening ceremony.

NIGERIAN INSTITUTE OF TRANSPORT TECHNOLOGY SECURES FEDERAL EXECUTIVE COUNCIL (FEC) APPROVAL FOR THE SMART NATIONAL TRANSPORT DATABANK (SNTDB) PROJECT

The Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology (NITT), under the supervision of the Federal Ministry of Transportation, has recorded a landmark national achievement with the approval of the Smart National Transport Databank (SNTDB) Project by the Federal Executive Council (FEC).

The approval represents a major breakthrough in Nigeria’s transport modernization agenda and reinforces the Federal Government’s commitment to building a smart, technology-driven, secure, and data-centric transportation ecosystem capable of supporting sustainable economic growth, national planning, security enhancement, and efficient mobility management.

This milestone is a reflection of the visionary leadership, strategic commitment, and tireless efforts of the Director-General/Chief Executive of NITT, Dr. Bayero Salih Farah, whose dedication, institutional coordination, stakeholder engagements, and persistent drive played a critical role in the successful actualization of the Project. Under his leadership, NITT successfully advanced the Project through rigorous technical, regulatory, financial, and stakeholder processes leading to the historic FEC approval.

The Smart National Transport Databank (SNTDB) Project is a state-of-the-art digital transport intelligence platform designed to collect, integrate, process, analyze, store, and disseminate real-time transport and mobility data across Nigeria. The Project will integrate data to support evidence-based policymaking, transport planning, infrastructure investment, safety management, security operations, and operational efficiency.

The Project will be implemented under a Public–Private Partnership (PPP) arrangement using the Design–Build–Finance–Operate–Transfer (DBFOT) model in collaboration with Asia-Arab Investment Nigeria Limited (AAI) as the Private Proponent.

Key components of the Project include:

• Deployment of 250 solar-powered smart gantries nationwide;
• Establishment of Traffic Management Centres across the 36 States and the FCT;
• Development of a centralized National Data Centre;
• Deployment of RFID-enabled Smart E-Tag technology;

The SNTDB Project is expected to deliver far-reaching national benefits including:

• Improved transport planning and policy formulation;
• Enhanced road safety and national security;
• Real-time traffic monitoring and automated enforcement;
• Improved revenue assurance and reduction in leakages;
• Strengthened inter-agency coordination and data integration;
• Digital transformation of the transport sector; and
• Job creation and economic growth opportunities.

The approval by the Federal Executive Council marks a defining moment in Nigeria’s transportation development journey and positions the country among forward-looking nations leveraging intelligent transport systems and digital infrastructure for national development.

The Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology appreciates the support of the Presidency, the Federal Executive Council, the Federal Ministry of Transportation, regulatory agencies, collaborating institutions, development partners, and stakeholders whose contributions made this achievement possible.

The milestone further demonstrates the growing relevance of Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology as a strategic national institution driving innovation, intelligence, technology, and policy development within Nigeria’s transportation sector.

ACADEMIC PLANNING UNIT BRAINSTORMS ON NITT PROGRAMMES REVIEW, ACCREDITATION

The Academic Planning Unit (APU), Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology (NITT), Zaria, has explored ways of clearing the bottlenecks around the accreditation of the Institute's academic programmes. The brainstorming session was held today at the director's office.

The Director, APU, Dr. Shehu Gidado, who chaired the session stressed that the patronage of the Institute's programmes hinged on credibility, which derived from accreditation and reaccreditation. He further stated that with the Director General/Chief Executive, Dr. Bayero Salih Farah's approval, the APU would swiftly swing into action to review the already identified programmes with a view to having them accredited.

Dr. Gidado also emphasised the importance of the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) and NITT Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), maintaining that ABU remained the Institute's essential partner in human capacity development.

The session received briefings from the ABU desk officer, Mr. Sani Adamu, as well as the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) programmes coordinator, Mr. Shehu Munkila,. The meeting was also attended by Mrs. Beatrice Nwaikwe, Mr. Ikechukwu Elegonye, Mr. Ismila Ali, among others.

NITT Students Gain Practical Insight Through Tour of Strategic Transport Agencies in Abuja

Students of the Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology (NITT), Abuja Outreach Learning Centre undergoing the CTL, DTL and ADTL programmes have embarked on an educational field trip across key transport and regulatory agencies in Abuja as part of their graduation requirements.

The study tour, took participants to the headquarters of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, the Nigeria Customs Service and the Vehicle Inspection Office. During the visits, students explored the operational roles of each organisation within Nigeria’s transportation and logistics ecosystem.

Officials at the agencies guided the students through their facilities, offering first-hand exposure to practical processes that complement classroom learning. The tour further provided participants with deeper insight into regulatory frameworks, safety enforcement and logistics management.

The field trip continued on Wednesday, April 29, with a visit to the Nigerian Railway Corporation, where students gained further understanding of rail transport operations and infrastructure in the country.

The Director, Special Duties and Annexes, Bar. Yakubu Adamu Yakubu, led the delegation alongside the Abuja Liaison Officer, Engr. Billiaminu Inuwa, and other facilitators who supervised the exercise.

INSIGHTFUL DISCUSSIONS MARK 2026 CIPSSON SEMINAR AT NITT

The Chartered Institute of Professional Secretarial Staff of Nigeria (CIPSSON), NITT Branch, today held its 2026 seminar on the Role of Confidential Secretaries in Transport and Logistics.

Speaking at the event,the Patron and Director,Transport Research and Intelligence, Dr. Baba Ibrahim Mundi, described the profession as noble and urged members to embrace technology in their duties.

In her welcome address, Branch President, Mrs. Patience E. Alechenu, appreciated the Director General/Chief of NITT, Dr. Bayero Salih Farah, for his support, while encouraging members to actively participate, noting that adapting to technology was essential.

Presenting the seminar paper, Dr. Sussana Ibrahim Zego emphasized the need for secretaries to leverage technology in information management and communication.

The event attracted key stakeholders, including CIPSSON’s Northwest representative, Mallam Nuhu Makarfi, as well as participants from the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology and Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, among others.
