Meet Mr. Etebong. A short story.
Mr Etebong is a young 9-5 man living in Uyo with 2 kids and his lovely wife.
On Monday mornings, Mr. Etebong gets up earlier than every other person in time for his “Weekly good luck routine”
This routine is where Mr. Etebong stares into the quiet neighborhood from his balcony between 5 - 5:30a.m usually with a cup of coffee in his right hand and letting his mind explore.
According to him, it is necessary to avoid any bad luck in the coming week.
Fast forward to this particular Monday.
There was an important meeting by 8a.m.
Mr. Etebong woke up later than he usually does and could barely have 30 minutes to get set and leave for work.
He was able to get set and leave in time - this was a sign that just maybe things may not be that bad after all.
15 minutes into his drive, another abnormal thing happened.
His car developed some fault and because of time, he had to call his mechanic to get the car while he boarded a taxi immediately.
Again he managed to be on time twice in a row that day. Everything looks good so far, the the meeting.
In this meeting, at some point, Mr. Etebong wished it never happened…
It was time for his presentation.
He stretched and grabbed his briefcase to get his flash drive but lo and behold, the flash drive was nowhere to be found.
He immediately called his wife to help search their house but it wasn’t there also.
As the delay continued, the potential clients were getting fed up and were soon going to leave Mr Etebong’s company.
The young man even convinced himself that everything was happening because he didn’t do his Monday morning good luck routine that morning.
While he was drowning in thoughts, something happened.
A phone call came in.
It was his mechanic.
“Mechanic: Hello…Oga?
Mr. Etebong: Hello…Please this is not a good time…can I call you back?
Mechanic: Oga I think you forgot your flash drive in the car as you were rushing to work.
Mr. Etebong: Yessss!!! Thank you!! I’ll send someone to come get it for me immediately!”
He immediately called a logistics service provider to send a dispatch rider to get the flash for him.
With all manner of confidence, Mr. Etebong opened the door of the meeting hall and explained the new situation.
As you would expect, it didn’t take long before his attention was drawn to the reception. His Calvary had arrived!
Waiting for him was a dispatch rider from Ade Express with the “most wanted flash drive”.
2 months after that presentation, Mr. Etebong was promoted thanks to how profitable the “Flash drive business” turned out to be.
