In electrical technology, over rating and under rating are two problems most people are faced with.

When it comes to rating wire for your electrical or electronic projects, first step you are to take is to consider your power source.

After that, you look are the power requirements for your equipment or device you are building.

What wire can supply such power from the source to your device without burning up?

You can use the Ampacity table to find the right size of wire to use.

If the current your device requires is 3A, the Ampacity table will show you the right size of wire to use.

How is it that when you push the start button, an electric motor would start?

Knowing that a normally open push button would close when pushed and immediately open when you remove your finger.

How does the electric motor not stop when you remove your finger?

This is the work of a retaining contact labeled KM1.

When the electric motor is energized, its EMF energizes the coil of KM1 and closes its contact.

When the contact closes, current keeps flowing from the power supply to the motor even when the start button is released.

The only way to stop the motor is by pressing the Normally closed STOP button, which becomes open to stop the flow of current.

The discovery of semiconducting materials changed everything about electronic technology.

Current smart technologies we are witnessing today have their roots in semiconductors.

Talking about digital technology, it couldn't have been possible without two state (binary) components like transistors and diodes.

The most sophisticated, smart electronic device today has within it, a controller ( chip).

At the very bottom of this chip lies millions of billions of transistors, diodes, tiny SMD capacitors, resistors and other modules.

This controlling chip is called a microprocessor and microcontroller depending on the scenario.

Your smartphone, smart watch, your PC, medical electronics, home electronics, industrial electronics all have either a microprocessor or microcontroller inside of them.

What makes the smart functioning of these devices possible is the electronic components inside the chips, chief among which is the transistors.

In a minute, let's look at the current explosion of AI applications on the web and mobile devices.

There are special chips designed to run AI applications. These chips are made by companies like Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company, TSMC.

Yet again, inside this chip are billions of transistors.

This is true because every computer program or application, regardless of the high level programming language used in developing it, still comes down to ones and zeros to be executed by a computer.

So if you play in the hardware, embedded systems field, you will have better coverage in knowledge of how to design and develop any smart electronic device for any defined purpose.

7 years ago I registered for my training in embedded systems development in the city of Owerri.

I was really excited to start learning.

The first microcontroller I ever wrote code for was PIC16F877A from Microchip.

And the language I used was a combination of C and C++.
