RTEAN LAGOS STATE TO DONATE OVER- N250m FULLY EQUIPPED ICT CENTRE TO LASU.
The Lagos State Chapter of the Road Transport Employers’ Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) has announced plans to donate a fully equipped Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Centre, valued at over N250 million, to Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo, as part of its commitment to education, youth development and corporate social responsibility.
The disclosure was made on Thursday, January 15, 2026, when a seven-man delegation of the Association including Comr. Surajo Rabe Karoifi (Ass. State Secretary), Comr. Ogundare Shola (state financial secretary), Comr. Akamo Fatai Babatunde (deputy chairman, Lasu chapel), Lawal Ganiu Ololade (Gen. Secretary, Lasu chapel) paid a courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor of LASU at her office on the university’s main campus. The delegation was led by the Deputy Operations Officer of RTEAN, Chief AbdulKareem Babatunde, who represented the Lagos State Chairman, Comrade Shamsideen Ajala (popularly known as KAOSARA), alongside the LASU Chapel Chairman of the Association, Comrade Nurudeen Mudashiru Eniafe.
Speaking at the meeting, Chief Babatunde said the proposed ICT Centre was motivated by the consistent and impactful contributions of the LASU Chapel of RTEAN to the university community. He noted that the Association recognises education as a powerful tool for societal transformation and is determined to support students and youths across Lagos State through strategic investments in digital infrastructure.
According to him, the project aligns with RTEAN’s broader vision under the leadership of Comrade Shamsideen Ajala, whose administration has prioritised peace, welfare, security and development since assuming office as Lagos State Chairman. He described Ajala’s leadership as inclusive and progressive, noting that the Association has recorded unprecedented stability, harmony and operational peace across Lagos State and Nigeria by extension.
Under Ajala’s leadership, RTEAN Lagos State has maintained zero tolerance for criminality, with no reported cases of violence, casualties or major security breaches among its members. The administration has also strengthened welfare schemes, with four state officers and Zonal chairmen benefiting from a N7 million welfare scheme every month, while four chapel chairmen across zones — Ojo Surulere, Badagry, Ikorodu and Epe receive a monthly N2 million support scheme. These initiatives, stakeholders noted, have significantly improved members’ welfare and fostered unity across the Association.
The Vice-Chancellor of LASU, Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, mni, NPOM, who was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Professor Oluwatoyin Enikuomehin, commended the ICT initiative, describing it as a strong example of effective “town and gown” collaboration.
According to her representative, the donation transcends LASU alone, as it helps to reshape public perception about RTEAN and demonstrates how organised transport unions can contribute meaningfully to education and national development. She thanked the Association for the gesture, noting that it aligns perfectly with LASU’s vision of digitalisation and innovation, while reaffirming the university’s status as Nigeria’s most digitally advanced and innovative state-owned university.
Professor Enikuomehin further praised former and postgraduate students of LASU who are active within RTEAN, noting that their academic exposure has added intellectual depth and professionalism to the Association’s activities.
The proposed ICT Centre, expected to commence shortly on the main campus, will feature a 250-seater Computer-Based Test (CBT) hall, fully equipped with computers and laptops, administrative offices, reliable power backup systems, high-speed internet connectivity and a holding bay.
The meeting was attended by key university officials, including the Chairman of the Master Plan Committee, Professor Fatai Ogundele; Acting Dean, Students’ Affairs Division, Dr Abiodun Fatai-Abatan; Deputy Registrar, Vice-Chancellor’s Office, Dr Lateef Sekoni; Deputy Director, Directorate of Information and Communication Technology (DICT), Mr Babatunde Ashiyanbi; Head of Physical Planning, Engineer Bajulaye; Deputy Registrar, Students’ Affairs Division, Mr Gbenga Sadiku; Deputy Registrar, DICT, Mrs Omolara Dosunmu; and other officials from the Vice-Chancellor’s Office.
Observers say the proposed ICT Centre further underscores the leadership philosophy of Comrade Shamsideen Ajala, which combines peace-building, welfare-driven governance and strategic investments in education, positioning RTEAN Lagos State as a model for union administration in Nigeria.
