K1 De Ultimate (born Wasiu Omogbolahan Olasunkanmi Adewale Ayinde Marshal, March 3, 1957) is a renowned Nigerian Fuji artist. He popularized a style within the fuji genre, derived from the work of fuji pioneer Ayinde Barrister, known as Talazo fuji, which resonates with audiences across all age groups, regardless of ethnicity and background.
Background
The Sovereign of Fuji Music: Olasunkanmi Ayinde Marshal, K1 De Ultimate, discovered his passion for music at the age of 8. Although his parents were initially resistant, he remained steadfast in his ambition. By the time he was 15, he had triumphed in numerous local music competitions. He subsequently joined Ayinde Barrister's ensemble, the Supreme Fuji Commanders, from 1975 to 1978, having previously worked under him as an instrument handler. He also incorporated the name Ayinde into his own after obtaining his mentor’s consent and approval. He launched his debut album, Iba, featuring the notable track ‘Abode Mecca’ in 1980, followed by his most acclaimed album, Talazo '84, in 1984. He has earned numerous titles and music accolades.
Music Career
K1 De Ultimate commenced his international tour across North America and Europe in 1986 and performed at Hammersmith Town Hall in 1987. This was succeeded by a performance in New York City, United States with his full Talazo Band on September 28, 1990, followed by London Yuppie 1 & 2 Nights in 1991/92, European Tour 1995, Berlin 1997, North America (USA & Canada '98), Canada 2000, and USA Tour 2003. He has maintained continuous touring annually since then. In 1995, he delivered the first Fuji performance at the WOMAD Festival. He is also the sole Fuji artist to perform at Troxy, WOMEX, and SOB's.
