DAY 5 — THE SECRET IN THE OLD HOUSE
The rain had stopped, but the village was still covered in darkness.
Daniel stood outside the abandoned house, staring at the broken window where he had seen the strange light the previous night.
Something inside was calling his attention.
He slowly pushed the wooden door open.
CREAAAAK…
The sound echoed through the empty building.
Daniel switched on his flashlight and walked inside. Dust covered everything. Old photographs hung crookedly on the walls.
Then he noticed something unusual.
One of the photographs showed his own father standing in front of the house.
Daniel froze.
His father had always told him he had never visited this village.
Suddenly, he heard footsteps coming from upstairs.
Step… step… step…
Daniel raised his flashlight.
“Who’s there?”
No answer.
He climbed the stairs slowly.
When he reached the top, he found a small room with a locked wooden box sitting in the middle.
On the box was a message:
“Daniel… if you are reading this, your father never told you the truth.”
His hands began to shake.
Before he could open the box, his phone rang.
It was his mother.
“Daniel, where are you?”
“I’m at the old house.”
There was complete silence on the other end.
Then his mother whispered:
“Leave that house immediately. Your father died trying to discover what is inside that box.”
Daniel looked at the box.
And suddenly…
something knocked from inside it.
