I have been in the maritime industry for four years, currently serving as a Second Officer DPO. My work revolves around safety and precision โ navigating the vessel, planning voyages, updating charts, and keeping a steady watch to ensure we stay on course in any condition. Iโm also responsible for maintaining the shipโs Life Saving and Fire Fighting Appliances, ensuring every piece of equipment is ready for emergencies. Managing the medical inventory is another key duty, keeping all first-aid supplies complete. Every day reminds me that safety at sea isnโt just a task โ itโs a lifeline.
What I love most about this profession is the balance between responsibility, adventure, and teamwork. Each voyage sharpens my skills, strengthens my confidence, and reminds me of the importance of leadership under pressure. Beyond the technical side, life at sea has opened my eyes to the world โ new horizons, new cultures, and invaluable experiences. What fulfills me most is knowing my journey can inspire other women to step onto the bridge, take command, and shape the future of maritime leadership.
One of my biggest challenges has been adjusting to life onboard โ the routines, long hours, and expectations that come with it. In a male-dominated field, earning trust takes consistency and professionalism. Yet every test has made me stronger, thanks to the support and guidance of my mentors and crew. Their belief in me has shown that teamwork and humility are just as vital as skill.
If I could advocate for change, it would be for a more inclusive environment where women are respected, supported, and given equal opportunities. Better policies, mentorship, and flexible sea-shore rotations would help women build lasting careers at sea.
Life at sea is more than a career โ itโs a journey of growth and discovery. The ocean has taught me resilience, patience, and that true leadership is built on service and respect.
