The U.S. Government has introduced a new Visa Bond requirement for some countries โ and Nigeria is included.

Effective Date for Nigerians: January 21, 2026
๐น What does this mean?
If you are a Nigerian applying for a U.S. B1/B2 (Tourist/Business) visa, you may be asked to pay a refundable visa bond before your visa is issued.
๐ฐ How much is the visa bond?
The bond amount will be decided at your visa interview:
$5,000
$10,000
$15,000
โ ๏ธ This bond is NOT for everyone โ only applicants the U.S. Embassy selects.
๐น Important things to know:

The bond is refundable if you:
Leave the U.S. on or before your approved stay
Do not travel before the visa expires
Are denied entry at the airport
โ You may lose the bond if you:
Overstay in the U.S.
Fail to leave the U.S. at all
Apply to change status or seek asylum
๐ Special entry & exit rule:
If you pay a visa bond, you must enter and exit the U.S. ONLY through:
JFK (New York)
Boston Logan
Washington Dulles
Entering through any other airport can cause serious problems.

โ Paying a bond does NOT guarantee visa approval โ Do NOT pay any bond unless a U.S. Consular Officer instructs you โ Payment is made ONLY through the official U.S. government platform (Pay.gov) โ Avoid agents or third-party websites โ money paid elsewhere is not recoverable
