Part 2/3 of our Windhoek Clutch Stopover

We moved from the workshop to Urban Camp in Windhoek and spent 10 days waiting for our clutch to arrive. A visit to Joe's Beerhouse kept our ears ringing as they had a drum session while we had dinner 🙉🤣 Urban Camp is a favourite stopover for Overlanders and we met lots of old and new friends while staying there. Urban Camp did a good job improving the campground during Corona and we can highly recommend it👍
And I finally managed to find the reason why our coffee machine was leaking 🤣 No coffee = grumpy
After our clutch cleared customs (without hazzles, that was a first), we moved back to the workshop again.

Part 1/3 of our Windhoek Clutch Stopover

We had problems with our clutch since departing Plettenberg Bay in South Africa. We first thought that it was a clogged fuel filter, as the truck lost power when going uphill. In Upington it got worse, it also showed when accelerating from standstill. So we risked the drive to Windhoek where we found out that the clutch was slipping. After several hours of trying to find the issue and of communicating with spare parts shops in Namibia, South Africa and Germany, we decided to air cargo a new clutch from Germany to Windhoek. We used the 4 days in the workshop to do maintenance, changed the engine oil, axle oils, checked all brakes and finally cleaned the tank, that was full of sludge from filling up in Mozambique several years ago.

We met at our "favourite" workshop in Germany in 2016, when Jutta & Gerd started their trip and our truck was shipped to Walvis Bay a few days later. We parted with the words "let's meet in Namibia". Nearly 6 years later, it finally happened. Unfortunately, we again met at a workshop. After three nights next to a salvage yard with not so nice views and smells, we moved to Urban Camp, where we wait for spare parts to arrive. Our planned trip to Kaokoveld will have to be postponed 😭 We used the time in the workshop to do some maintenance and finally got rid of the dirt in the tank from Mozambique in 2017, so once the problem is solved, we are ready for new KATventures 🤣

Finally met a fellow traveller (again, for the 5th time now) with a car nearly as long as our truck 🤣

Spent a relaxing night in between Quiver trees in Mesosaurus Fossil Camp near Keetmanshoop. If you are in the region, skip Quiver Tree Forest Camp and come here instead. No noise, no extra charges for night time photography and lovely owner who enjoys doing tours and explains everything. Some huge weaver bird nests are directly in the camp and you can watch their coming and going.

then the tree is the pantry of a bird called Jacky Hanger. This bird impales it's prey on thorns for later consumption. Some trees here look like a butcher's shop 😱
