Small Planet Airlines is a European leisure carrier who at this time is operating in Lithuania, Poland, Italy, France, The Netherlands, UK, Germany and Asia. We are headquartered in Lithuania, but our approach is to have separate localized strong operations in every country. We have air operator’s certificates (AOC) in Lithuania, Poland and Germany, herefore we may do much more than any non-national airline, e.g. fly outside of the EU or employ local staff on-board.

From time to time, unexpected things happen in aviation and flights get delayed. Delays strikes even the most punctual ones on the OAG’s list, and nobody gets excited about it – neither the passenger, nor the airline. You roll up your sleeves and do everything you can to get the crowd home (or to the holiday resort) as quick as possible. 🚀

Yesterday, we couldn’t fly our passengers from Zakynthos in Greece back to Warsaw on time, so we leased an Airbus A320 type aircraft from another carrier to get things done. Unfortunately, there’s not much choice on the aircraft market nowadays, and the machine happened to be smaller than our A321 buddies: it could not accommodate 40 passengers... 🤔 For them, we leased another aircraft, this time – a 56-seat Boeing 737-500 with an all-business class configuration. Not sure our Head of Finances will find it amusing, but we hope our passengers enjoyed the experience! ✈️ 💫

Who said long flights ✈️ are boring?

A couple of years ago, Paulius joined our dispatchers’ team that works 24 hours a day ⏰ to keep our planes up and running. Ironically, he flew for the first time in his life only after joining Small Planet Airlines. For him, becoming a pilot was a childhood dream that recently became a reality! 👨‍✈️

“The dream of becoming a pilot never left my head, so after finishing school I entered the university for pilot’s studies. Later on, I applied for an internship at a local general aviation airfield and after that I worked in a logistics company’s call centre where I gained knowledge on how to react quickly, efficiently communicate with multiple customers and make accurate decisions. One day I got a call from Small Planet Airlines with an offer to join the dispatchers’ team. Several of my coursemates were already working here, and I got the impression from them that Small Planet Airlines is a young and energetic company. The job interview went well and, well... the rest is history!”

Paulius hints that his future plans are quite simple – he wants to constantly improve his piloting skills and knowledge. Oh, and visiting many new countries is also a part of the plan! ✈️

Did you know? ✈️ According to EUROCONTROL, the European Organisation for the Safety of Air Navigation, due to the lack of airport capacity, airline staffing issues, and exponentially growing number of passengers, delayed flights situation will get much worse in the upcoming 20 years. 470 000 passengers may experience flight delays up to 2 hours every single day, and around 160 M will be unable to travel due to capacity limitations.

As for today, 28% of the delays can be attributed to disruptive events (such as strikes), 27% to weather, and as much as 45% to staffing and capacity issues 👩‍🔧👨‍🏭👨‍✈️👩‍✈️Delayed flight is stressful both for the passenger and the airline. Although the future holds its challenges, our aim is to have no more than 1.3% of delays longer than 3 hours. This is why we are constantly implementing new measures to keep our planes up ✈️

Girmantas has a serious condition. This condition is called aviation. ✈️

“This Spring, I was lucky enough to join the disciplined, yet creative and friendly team at Small Planet Airlines. I have been interested in aviation for most of my life. I remember drawing airplanes in my kindergarten! 😄 A couple of years ago, I went on to study Air Traffic Control at the university, combining my studies with working as a check-in agent at the airport. Leading passengers onto the airplane and seeing it depart at the brink of dawn was truly magical every single time. 🛫

As a flight attendant, I especially enjoy greeting passengers that travel rarely, because for them flying is a memorable event. Up in the sky, daily struggles somehow become insignificant. Roaming the skies above the clouds in a big metal bird is simply majestic. Seeing the infinite blue sky and the Sun above the clouds is what gets me up in the morning. Not many people have this opportunity, so I believe that I am very lucky.” ✨
