It’s turtle nesting season and you can help by calling to report turtle track and nest sightings to the Department of Environment’s (DoE) Turtle Hotline, 938-NEST (6378)!
In addition, beachfront property owners and residents can assist by following DoE guidelines issued to make beaches safe for nesting turtles. These include:
*Not raking or covering turtle tracks
*Staying away from nesting turtles and not disturbing them with lights or loud noises
*Removing obstacles like beach chairs during nighttime hours
*Not driving on the beach
*Applying for a permit for beach bonfires
*Reducing lighting in beachfront areas
*Protecting beach vegetation, which can shield bright lights and encourage turtles to nest
