Picturesque natural forest, stunning mountain, plateu, valleys, and channels, local ethnic communes and a diverse wildlife all await the visitor in Virachey National Park.Virachey National Park covers an area of 3,325 square kilometers in Veun Sai and Ta Veng districts of Ratanakiri province, and shared it area reached to Siem Pang district of Stung Treng province. It’s about 60 km north of Banlung town of Ratanakiri province. The Virachey park is served as the largest national in Cambodia and together with adjacent protected areas in Lao and Vietnam collectively forms one of the largest areas of protected areas in Asia.It is the only nature original biology that remain from the un-touching by human in the Cambodia as well as South-East Asia. There are thousand-year-old trees, prairies, more than a hundred bird species including the Great Hornbill and Red-collared Woodpecker, and wildlife living there. The vast forest, grassland, mountains and valleys remain largely unexplored and undisturbed by human settlement and may still harbor new and undiscovered wildlife species.
They provided important habitats for tiger, elephant, wild cattle and a number of spectacular, globally threatened primate and bird species. The northeast of Cambodia has been the home indigenous, hill tribe people for centuries and remains a center for cultural diversity in region. Indigenous Brov and Kavet people continue to depend on the natural resources of Virachey for their survival and several communities are now participating in the park’s ecotourism program. Virachey too has a rich, albeit tragic, historical heritage through its association with American-Vietnam war, the legacy of which can still be readily observed along the infamous Ho Chi Minh Trail that traverse the park. At Virachey you will find many animal species including elephant, tiger and gaur. In addition, the national park is home to 1500 indigenous families. Visitors are able to view the customs, traditions, beliefs, and daily activities of these ethnic minorities. Visible too are historical tracks, reminders of the Vietnam and US war.
Virachey National Park was designated as an Asian Heritage Park in 2003 in recognition of its outstanding contribution biodiversity conservation.
