How much did I actually spend climbing Mount Fuji? 🗻💸
🚆 Osaka → Gotemba: ~$80
Shinkansen to Mishima + train to Gotemba. I could’ve saved ~$20 with an overnight bus… but forgot to book it 🤦🏻♀️
🏨 3 nights in Gotemba: $217
Booked last minute, so cheaper options were probably available. Comfortable, close to the station, and great staff, but I accidentally got a smoking room 😂
🚌 Gotemba → Subashiri 5th Station: ~$16 round trip
📱 Mt. Fuji hiking fee: ~$25
Easy online registration. You choose your trail and indicate if you’re staying in a hut. Overnight entry requires a hut reservation.
⛰️ Mountain hut: $121
Taiyokan, Subashiri Trail, around the 7th Station. Dinner + breakfast included. I booked ~13 days before because the 8th Station huts were already full.
⚠️ Important: The hut didn’t allow me to use electricity, so bring enough power banks!
🥢 Extra small Climbing stick: $6.50 Fuji stamps: ¥300 each
You can get commemorative stamps burned onto your walking stick at different stations.
🥤 Snacks + water + electrolytes: at 7/11
At the trail you find water and food too. Bring cash, prices increase as you go up.
🧤 Last-minute gear: ~$9
Beanie + gloves because I didn’t have that gear with me. You can also rent gear and have it delivered to your hotel.
🚽 Toilet: ¥200
The hut toilet was included.
💰 TOTAL: almost $500
Could I have spent less? Absolutely.
You can bus from Tokyo to the trail, climb, summit, and head straight back without staying in Gotemba.
But I loved having 3 nights there, and got to visit the Gotemba Premium Outlets too.
Was it the cheapest way? No.
Was it worth it? 100%. 🗻❤️
