上手くいかない事業に頭を抱えながら
働かせてもらっていた場所へ。

当時はどこか距離を作ってしまっていたけれど、
今は心から「ただいま」と言える気がします。

ようやく、大切な人を連れて
「今の僕」で暖簾をくぐることができました。

美味しい料理と、変わらない温かい再会。
僕のルーツの一つ。

妻を連れて来られて本当に良かった。

最高の誕生日になりました。

Breakfast at Dōgo Yaya was just as wonderful as people said. A big lineup of Ehime mandarins, plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables, and a refreshing start with freshly pressed mikan juice. The fluffy French toast I’d been waiting for was perfect. Before leaving, I grabbed one more cup from the famous “mikan juice faucet.”

We then drove across the Shimanami Kaidō to Ōyamazumi Shrine, home to a 2,600-year-old sacred tree. The quiet air felt purifying. At the roadside station, we bought so many local fruits and veggies that our trunk looked like a mini market.

Next was Onomichi, my father’s hometown — a place that always feels comforting. My go-to ramen shop “Aka” was closed, so we tried another place and it was great. Then came my longtime favorite: Karasawa’s egg ice cream. I’ve had it countless times, and my order is always the same — cream zenzai. Still unbeatable.

In Kurashiki, the white storehouses and willow-lined river were beautiful in the evening light. When the lights came on, the town turned dreamlike. We found a soba shop using takakibi millet and enjoyed it with Okayama’s mamakarizushi — vinegared fish said to be “so good you borrow rice from neighbors.” Dessert was kibi-dango and kibidango milk. A perfect final dinner.

One more day left on this journey.

「道後やや」さんの朝食は噂どおりの素晴らしさ。愛媛のみかんが種類豊富に並び、フルーツや野菜も山盛り。生搾りみかんジュースで爽やかにスタートし、楽しみにしていたフワフワのフレンチトーストも絶品でした。名物の“蛇口みかんジュース”を最後にもう一杯いただき、名残惜しくも出発。

しまなみ海道を爽快にドライブし、樹齢2600年のご神木が鎮座する大山祇神社へ。澄んだ空気に包まれ、心身ともにリフレッシュ。道の駅では野菜や果物を買いすぎて、車のトランクが市場状態に。

尾道は父の故郷で、何度訪れても落ち着く場所。大好きなラーメン屋「朱」はまさかの定休日で、久々に浮気したものの、こちらも大当たり。そして、1000回は食べている「からさわ」のたまごアイス。季節問わず、注文はクリームぜんざい一択。やっぱり最高。

そこから倉敷へ。倉敷川沿いに白壁の蔵屋敷が並び、枝垂柳が揺れる風景は夕暮れにぴったり。ライトアップが始まると、江戸の風情とモダンが混ざり合い、幻想的な世界に早変わり。

散策中に、きびだんごの原料「高黍（たかきび）」を使った蕎麦屋を見つけ、名物のままかりと一緒に美味しくいただきました。高黍そばはモチモチでコシがあり最高。岡山を代表する魚「ままかり」は、標準和名「サッパ」と言い、借り）に行くほどおいしい」ということかママカリと呼ばれるようになったそうで、シンプルな酢魚のお寿司です。デザートにきび団子と「きび団子ミルク」なる飲み物まで頂き、最後の夜もしっかりと郷土料理で締めました。

自然と食を堪能してきた旅も、残すはあと一日。

After leaving the Shimanto River, we set off toward Dōgo Onsen. It was a long drive, but we made the most of it with plenty of fun stops along the way.

From Ghibli-themed statues near a factory to a massive straw mammoth standing proudly in the countryside, every detour was a surprise. We also stopped by a 150-year-old family shop famous for tachiuo-maki (grilled beltfish roll) — the sweet lady there told us her son works in Kyoto’s Gion district, which felt like a wonderful connection!

Later, we drove through a “Totoro-like” tree tunnel straight out of a movie scene. Thanks to all the research we’d done, the long road trip felt more like an adventure than a drive. 🚗💨

Finally, we arrived at Dōgo Onsen, one of Japan’s oldest hot springs. The town is cozy and perfect for strolling. Our stay at Dōgo Yaya was the one I’d looked forward to most. The lobby welcomes guests with a mikan juice faucet 🍊 and an Imabari towel buffet, where you can pick your favorite texture from about ten kinds.

After choosing our yukata, we headed to Asukanoyu for a relaxing soak (we skipped the famous main bathhouse this time — saving that for next visit ).

Post-bath, we wandered the streets in yukata under the evening breeze — pure bliss. Back at the hotel, we were treated to a late-night bowl of Tai-meshi (sea bream rice). It was so good, I had two servings without hesitation.

What a perfect way to end the day.

四万十川を後にし、次の目的地は、道後温泉。
長距離ドライブでしたが、
道中に楽しみをたくさん見つけながら寄り道の旅に。

工場そばのジブリ像、
田園のど真ん中に現れる巨大な藁のマンモス、
150年続く老舗の太刀魚巻き屋さんでは
優しいおばちゃんと楽しいおしゃべり。
（なんと息子さんは祇園勤務！ご縁ですね！）
さらに、まるでトトロの森のような木のトンネルも。
映画のワンシーンの中にいるような感覚が味わえます。

色々と調べていたおかげで、
長距離移動も冒険のように楽しめました。

さて、道後温泉街に到着。
コンパクトで歩くのが楽しい街でした。

今回一番楽しみにしていた宿「道後やや」さんでは、ロビーのおもてなしから感動。
みかんジュースが出る蛇口、
今治タオルのビュッフェ
（10種類から選べる！ふわっふわ！）
など、遊び心満載。
浴衣も好きな色を選び、清潔で快適な「飛鳥乃湯」へ。
街のシンボル、日本最古の道後温泉本館は外観だけ拝見。
次回のお楽しみに。

湯上がりに浴衣で街を散歩。夜風が気持ちよくて最高。
宿に戻ると、夜食に鯛めしのサービス！
あまりのうまさに、ついおかわり2杯。
最高の一日でした。

One of my long-time dreams finally came true — a visit to Villa Santorini in Kōchi.

This stunning resort beautifully recreates the charm of Santorini Island in the Aegean Sea. The moment I arrived, I was swept into a world that felt far from Japan — a perfect escape.

Unfortunately, there were no rooms available, so I couldn’t stay overnight. But when I checked the restaurant rankings in Kōchi City, I found that the No.1 spot was "Logue," inside this very hotel. I made a quick reservation — and it became one of the trip’s highlights. 🍽️

About an hour’s drive from Kōchi City, the bright blue villa stands alone on a quiet peninsula. I remember seeing it in a magazine nearly 20 years ago and writing “Someday I’ll go” in my dream notebook. And there it was — finally before my eyes.

Lunch started at noon, with six tables seated at once — a full culinary performance. From Tosa Akaushi beef and Tosa Jiro eggs to local citrus and vegetables, every dish was crafted with care. The tableware — Sugahara glass, Cutipol, Laguiole — added to the joy. Two hours flew by like a dream.
In the afternoon, we drove south to Shimanto River.

After such a rich lunch, we went for a run — something we both love. Of course, that led to more hunger… and an evening of izakaya hopping!

At Kihachi, the salt-seared bonito was divine, and at Motoya, the Shimizu mackerel sashimi became the best I’ve ever had. We paired everything with local sake and walked the 2km back to our hotel under the night sky, tipsy and happy.

長年夢ノートに書いていた「ヴィラサントリーニ」へ。

エーゲ海・サントリーニ島を忠実に再現した白と青の建物が、まるで異国に来たような非日常の世界へと誘ってくれます。
今回は残念ながら満室で宿泊は叶いませんでしたが、高知市内のレストランランキングを見ていたら、なんと1位がこのホテル内の「logue」。すぐにランチを予約し、この旅のハイライトのひとつになりました。

高知市内から車で約1時間。山道を抜け、何もない半島に現れる青いヴィラ。約20年前に雑誌で見て「いつか行ってみたい」と書いた景色が、目の前に広がっていました。

12時ちょうどに6組のゲストが案内され、一斉に始まるランチ。土佐あか牛、土佐ジロー卵、柑橘、新鮮な地元野菜や果物をふんだんに使ったシェフ渾身のコースは、味も盛り付けも感動的。好きなカトラリー（Sghr、Cutipol、Laguiole）にも出会え、2時間があっという間でした。

午後はさらに南下して四万十川へ。お腹いっぱいで街を散歩するつもりが、カロリー消費に2人でランニング。結局お腹がすき、夜は居酒屋はしごに。

「喜八」のカツオ塩たたきは人生最高の鰹タタキ、「元屋」の清水サバの刺身は人生最高の刺身。地酒もたっぷりいただき、2kmの帰り道を夜風に吹かれながら、ほろ酔いでゆっくり歩いて帰りました。

Finally — I got to see the legendary Niyodo Blue with my own eyes.
Floating on a crystal kayak, I could see right through the water — the riverbed, the pebbles, even the fish swimming beneath me. It was pure magic. Surrounded by the golden and red mountains of autumn, just drifting in silence felt like a luxury.

We also used a drone photo service, and the shots were incredible — it looked as if the kayak was floating in the sky! Truly unforgettable memories. The water was extra clear that day, probably thanks to the rain the day before, and we even spotted a rare white carp gliding below.

For lunch, we stopped by a small local restaurant and enjoyed mountain vegetable soba and grilled Amago (river fish). My father used to take me fishing for Amago when I was a kid, so it felt nostalgic — like reconnecting with an old friend.

In the afternoon, my wife and I, both hiking lovers, explored several waterfalls around the Niyodo River. A bit of trekking, a bit of sweat, and a lot of joy — it was one of those perfect days you just want to hold onto.

ついにこの目で見たかった「仁淀ブルー」を体験できました。
透明なクリスタルカヤックで川を進むと、川底や泳ぐ魚まではっきり見えて感動。黄色や赤に染まった山々に囲まれ、大自然の中でぷかぷかと浮かぶ時間は本当に贅沢でした。
さらにドローン撮影サービスで素敵な写真と動画をいただき、まるで空に浮かぶようなカットも撮れて大満足。前日の軽い雨の影響で水量が増え、透明度がさらに際立ち、珍しい白い鯉にも出会えました。

ランチはふらっと入った郷土料理屋さんで、山菜そばとあまごを。子どもの頃、父とよくあまご釣りをしていたことを思い出しながら、美味しく頂きました。

トレッキング好きの夫婦なので、カヤックだけでなくトレッキングも旅のハイライトです。午後は仁淀川周辺の滝めぐりへ。軽く汗をかいてリフレッシュし、心も体も満たされた最高の一日でした。

Even though it rained on and off, the weather seemed to pause just when I wanted to enjoy the view — almost like it was cheering me on. I explored the breathtaking Ōboke & Koboke Gorges and the Iya Vine Bridge, surrounded by pure wilderness.

One of the most unique highlights of this trip was an ice cream shop specializing in… grilled eggplant! 🍆 Yes, you read that right. Alongside ginger and seaweed flavors, every scoop was surprisingly delicious. The grilled eggplant × ginger combo was perfectly balanced — like eating a real dish, but as ice cream. Kids would absolutely love it too. Inside the shop, there was even a cute display of a child’s research project on how the ice cream is made — such a heartwarming touch.

After leaving nature behind, I headed to Kōchi City. At the Sunday Market, I found the biggest sweet potato I’ve ever seen, then joined the famous line at Yairo-tei in Hirome Market for salt-seared bonito. The thick, tender slices were unbelievably fresh — truly the taste of Kōchi.

In the afternoon, I visited Ryūga Cave, one of Japan’s three great limestone caves. Honestly, I underestimated it. The cave stretches deep into the mountain — a 40-minute walk through otherworldly formations that felt like walking through Earth’s history itself. Outside, a small, slightly old-fashioned museum displayed stones, fossils, animals, and even bats — all fascinating in their own way.

By the time I returned to Kōchi City, the sun had set. I stopped by Katsurahama Beach to see the Pacific Ocean. Though it was pitch dark, the sound of the waves and the stars above created a moment of pure peace. Sometimes, doing nothing — just standing still — feels like the greatest luxury.

朝起きると、あいにくの雨。が、不思議と景色を見たい時には弱まってくれて、むしろちょうどいい旅日和。大歩危・小歩危、祖谷のかずら橋では雄大な自然の景色を堪能しました。

今回の旅のユニークな目玉のひとつは、「焼きなすアイス」のお店🍆生姜や青のり、酒かすなどもあり、どれも想像以上に美味しい。特に焼きなす×生姜のダブルソフトは、まるで本物の料理のような風味。なのに、ちゃんとアイスとして完成していて、マジで最高に美味い。店内には子どもが製造過程を観察して作った研究発表も展示されていて、これもまた微笑ましい。

午後は日本三大鍾乳洞の一つ「龍河洞」へ。正直、舐めてました。軽い気持ちで行ったら、奥深くまで続く40分の冒険。無数の鍾乳石が作るアートに、地球の歴史を感じました。外のレトロな博物館も、意外と見応えあり。

夕方、高知市に戻る途中でふと太平洋が見たくなり、桂浜へ。暗闇の中ライトに照らされる龍馬さんに挨拶し、砂浜へ。真っ暗な中、波の音と満天の星を眺めながら過ごす時間は、この上なく贅沢でした。たくさん見て食べた一日でしたが、「何もしない時間」こそ最高の締めくくり。
