Are you travelling with your bun this summer?

Traveling with a rabbit is definitely no small task. Quite a bit of preparation and consideration is needed, especially if you do not have rabbit supplies at the destination.

As many of you know, one of my guinea pigs, Lime, recently crossed the Rainbow Bridge. She left behind a sister, Marshmallow, the last surviving member of her sister-trio. They lived in adjacent "condos", and interacted through the fence (but they could not live together).

Since Lime's passing, Marshmallow has exhibited behavior of loss, knowing that her next-door sister was no loner there. I put out the word to the rescues I work with that I was looking for a female to move into the adjacent "condo".

Atlantic Critters Rescue contacted me a few days ago that they were getting an owner surrender female piggie about the same age as Marshmallow. She arrived today and I immediately went down to pick her up.

Please help us welcome Sandi to our family!

She will spend the next day or so decompressing, then she will get a vet appointment.

May has been a brutal month...
.. and it's still not over

9 runs total, including

* two trips to Maryland on the 10th (9:30 AT NIGHT, IN THE RAIN) and 12th to get 3 rabbits, 6 guinea pigs, and 3 rats from a family being evicted from their apartment

* a 3-stop interstate trip on the 17th to transport 16 rats following the tragic passing of one of their rescuers, for Helping All Little Things, Atlantic Critters Rescue and Steph's Community Pet Rescue

* an emergency run to Northeast Philadelphia on the 18th to get a dumped rabbit in 100-degree heat (the thermometer in my car read 102). The local mail carrier had a neighbor take her in and called Tribbles Rabbit Rescue. I got the call and dropped everything I was doing to get her. She was hot, scared, and covered with over 40 ticks. If I hadn't got her when I did, she would have died.

* a pickup on the 19th to get 1 turtle and 4 newts who had to be surrendered from a school following he end of the semester

* an owner surrender on the 21st of a 7-year old rabbit (I don't know the back story on that one)

* an owner surrender today, the 23rd, an owner surrender of a 3-1/2-year-old guinea pig, who I adopted myself, through Atlantic Critters Rescue.

This month alone, 7 rabbits, 19 rats, 7 guinea pigs, a turtle and 4 newt, over 1000 miles driven, over $40 in tolls, all my time and expenses donated.

Year-to-date - 67 rabbits, 55 other small animals, 4900 miles driven, nearly $300 in tolls, and $500 in other out-of-pocket expenses

PLEASE support these rescues.
* They house them,
* They feed them.
* They pay for vet care.
* They find them new homes.

All I do is get them there.

Today, because of a few amazing people, we were able to get almost ALL of the strong island ratties Alanna was fostering into different rescues that are open to adoptions! My (Emelia) one bedroom apartment is not exactly designed to house 36 animals, and tonight there are 16 fewer rats in my home than the night before.

It was actually supposed to be 12 fewer rats instead of 16, but it has been a tiring few weeks to say the least, and I accidentally sent four extra rats on a tour of New Jersey. Everyone was so incredibly helpful and understanding, with Bryan Cooper - Bunny Whisperer even offering to return them to us after his delivery before Steph's Community Pet Rescue agreed to keep the extras. Thank you both for jumping in ready to right my wrong 😂🤦!

Atlantic Critters Rescue took the other eight and we are so appreciative of them for doing so. All of the rats are going to be so well cared for!

This gets me down to 20! We have one more transport lined up later in the month, which I’ll post about when it gets closer. It should go much more smoothly. At that point I won’t have any more animals to accidentally send (knock on wood).

So, last Saturday, I was doing a rabbit rescue transport for Tribbles Rabbit Rescue. I was meeting another driver in Camden, where he was going to participate in a tree planting event with NJ Tree Foundation. While I was waiting, I also jumped in to help. This is another wonderful volunteer effort to make our world a better place.

This is the cutie I picked up in Jersey City on Sunday morning. She was dumped in the cold earlier in the week

Fortunately, she wandered into a cat trap that had been set to trap feral cats for TNR. Once at the shelter, she had a vet exam and was spayed.

This morning, I picked her up before loading her into my carrier for the hour and 45 minute drive to Tribbles Rabbit Rescue, and she settled down in my arms.

She is available for adoption by contacting Tribbles.

Off to Jersey City Animal Care & Control to pick up an abandoned rabbit to go to Tribbles Rabbit Rescue.

JCACC got this bunny earlier in the week, and got him to the vet to be examined and desexed. We can now bring him into the rescue to find a furever home.
