Memories of 'Ammi ka ghar'
Ammi ka ghar, once it was 'my home', but don't know when it became only 'Ammi ka ghar',(now a repository of cherished memories) . Though Ammi is no longer there, her essence lingers in every corner. It is where my father, brother and sister-in-law also resides, yet I still refer to it as 'Ammi ka ghar'. Opening the wardrobe releases her fragrance, reminding me of her presence. Her belongings, her medicines, her comb, her books, her janamaz, all things remain as it is on it's place, preserving her essence. The nightly clatter of utensils have now faded, but the aroma of her sweet dishes still lingers. She used to cook not just for us, but also for our children, on their demand. She was comfortable in these tasks, especially in the quiet of the night. And after completing her dish, she personally used to go to everyone and serve us all by herself. Talking to her on the phone always kept me updated about everyone in the family. She didn't talk for long on the phone, but her brief conversations brought me in such peace that I never can explain. Sometimes she wished for all of us to gather at her place. She used to ask me, 'When will you come to visit?' ,but she never insisted. She just used to say, 'Take care of your own household affairs, come when you get the chance.' Though there was no prohibition in my house, but the responsibilities of children, their schools, household chores, and the thought of meeting all my siblings, who were also out of the station made my visits on hold or postponed them. She did so much for us all her life, but if we did something for her, she would augment our small efforts. My last meeting with ammi was in June, where I spent about 15 days with her. It was after a long time, I stayed with ammi and papa for so many days. That time feels like a beautiful dream for me. She was with me, happy with me. And on September 7th, I receive the news that she is no more..
O Allah forgive my ammi , keep her away from the punishment of the grave and hellfire, and grant her a place in Jannatul Firdaus.
Ameen."
