The temple was built by the successor and on of the Seven Donors,King Adhiyaman Neduman Anji, in 9th century. There are only two Temples in india for Sri Dhakshina Kashi Kala Bhairavar. One at Varanasi (Kashi) and the other at Adhiyamankotai, Dharmapuri,Tamil Nadu. Lord Bhairav is considered to be the incarnation of Lord Shiva. Kalabhairava is the Lord of the March of Time. The Sanskrit meaning of
the word ‘Bhairava’ is ‘Terrible’ or ‘Frightful’. The story is that when Brahma who was originally endowed with five heads started displaying his arrogance as the supreme creator of the Universe, Lord Shiva assumed the form of Bhairava and cut off one of the five head. Sri Kala Bhairavar is known as Smashaana Vasi being this temple is also built in the Smashanam.(Grave yard ). The shrine histories of Arts are deterrent. The temple roof has 9 influence wheel renewed. The Sri Kala Bhairvar deity is facing th South Direction in this Temple. As deity Bhairavar appears in standing position with four hands accompanied by his vahana the Dog. He carries Trident, Head, Padangusha, and small Membrane in his hands. His head will be seen as flames and this temple is painted Red. He wears the snake as punool(YAJNOPAVEETHAM) and hip thread. Sri Bhairavar has 27 stars and 12 Zodiac signs in his holy Body.The temple History is engraved in the stone age as art and can be seen today also in the Temple. It is believed that Worshipping here Sri Kala Bhairavar , he will dissolve the delusion in the mind, makes one fearless and dispassionate, increases detachment and grants liberation. His worship in fire is very auspicious and accelerates spiritual progress. Sri Kala Bhairava has the power to compress time in our consciousness and dissolve all unfavourable times. The Celestial Guardian can shield us from all forms of negativity with his fierece energy. Those having malefic planets in the birth lagna (time) in transit is effective to reduce their negative effects here. During the power time of Kala Bhairava, 8th Moon dissolves all bad times that lead to delays, disappointments, lack of clarity and absence of motivations.

Daily prayers are held during Rahu kalam. During Sunday, at the time of Rahu kalam 28 types of special prayers and rudra oblation will be done. On these days he will be on Royal dressing. Monthly once this will be held during waxing moon and Ashtami. From early Morning 6:00 clock , Atiruta ritual, Ashta Bhairava ritual, Ganapathy ritual, Lakshmi rituals will be held. After 9:30 Rudra Oblation will be held along with 64 types of liquids. Offering prayers will also take place. At Night 10:30 onwards till early morning Chatru samhaara Homam and blood ritual will take place. On full Moon day Swarna Krishna Kubera pooja will take place to solve the financial problems.
