The Smithsonian’s National Museum of Asian Art has just unveiled a breathtaking new exhibition: “Of the Hills: Pahari Paintings from India’s Himalayan Kingdoms.”

Transporting us back to the royal courts of the 17th and 19th centuries, these centuries-old masterpieces are finally stepping out of the shadows. For the first time ever, many of these “unseen” treasures are on public display, offering a rare look at the lyrical beauty of the Himalayan foothills.

History made in the world of Indian art! 🎨✨

Raja Ravi Varma’s 19th-century masterpiece, “Yashoda and Krishna,” has just set a breathtaking new world record, selling for a staggering ₹167.20 crore at Saffronart’s Spring Live Auction.

Often called the “Mona Lisa of Indian Art,” this iconic canvas depicts a tender moment from the Shrimad Bhagavatam. It didn’t just break records—it nearly doubled its initial estimates, proving that the demand for India’s cultural treasures is stronger than ever.

The painting was acquired by Dr. Cyrus S. Poonawalla, who has shared his vision to ensure this national treasure is preserved and shared with the public.

A monumental day for art history and a powerful reminder of Raja Ravi Varma’s enduring legacy. 🖼️🇮🇳
