Stakna monastery Ladakh India is a Buddhist monastery of the Drukpa sect. affiliated with Druk Yul (Bhutan) 25 kilometres from Leh on the left bank of the Indus river. It was found in the late 16th century by a Bhutanese scholar and saint Chosje Mukzin. Stakna; the name, literally means 'tiger's nose' was given because the monastery was built on a hill shaped like a tiger's nose. Stakna has a residence of approximately 50 monks.
It is the only Bhutanese Drukpa Kagyu monastery in central Ladakh, but have other branch monasteries in Changthang, Zanskar, Padder in Kishtawar J&K and in Lahaul H.P. headed BY Stakna Rinpochey and is mentored by Khenpo Tsoskey Dorjey from Bhutan based in Bodhgaya India. Stakna Monastery is believed to be where the great worrior king of Ladakh Singey Namgyal was first ordained as a monk but later after the demise of his elder brother at a young age, he had to leave the monkhood and become the King of Ladakh. The priest patron relationship between Ladakh and Bhutan become stronger during the reign of King Singey Namgyal. Stakna played a great role in shaping the future of Ladakh!!

Within the kernels of Garhwal, lies the Bali Pass having an astounding elevation of 5,000 meters. This arresting high altitude pass offers unobstructed views of the sublime Himalayan peaks such as Kala Nag, Bandarpoonch, and Swargarohini.

The Bali Pass trek is full of adventures and mystical views that will make your trip nostalgic. The trek starts from Sankri village and ends at Jankichatti. A little trekking experience is necessary for commencing this trek.
