Art in Transit

Art in Transit Students of Srishti School of Art, Design & Technology, In collaboration with the BMRC, explore ways to enhance our public spaces through art and design.

Art in Transit, a collaboration between the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation (BMRC) and Srishti School of Art, Design & Technology, aims at transforming Bangalore's metro stations into cultural hubs that facilitate meaningful interactions through public art. Begun in July 2014, the pilot project at Peenya Metro Station has brought together 37 students and 4 facilitators from Srishti who are workin

g towards creating relevant and meaningful interventions that transform the station into a space that is integrated and sensitive to the cultural context within which it is situated. From 2016 to 2018 Art in Transit curated a series of public events under the curatorship of Amitabh Kumar, Arzu Mistry for Srishti called ' Festival of Stories' where students, faculty, artists, designers, activists celebrated the immediate locality with multiple programs through the intensive festivals. Art in Transit parallely activated Chickpete Metro Station on the invitation of BMRCL in 2017 by painting 10 murals with students of CKP and other invited artists. From 2019 Art in Transit co-formed the ' Metro Neighbourhood Initative' passing the systemic placemaking process to many of it's collaborators and activated multiple more metro stations towards the Interim event ' Festival of Ideas' .

The Srishti Manipal Collective '25 is the annual showcase of the final semester inquiries of our young practitioners, from the undergraduate to the doctoral. This vibrant exhibition offers a limpse into our ecosystem: how we co-learn and collaborate to co-create bold visions for real-time impact.

Our interdisciplinary lens amalgamates art, design, and technology to reimagine, navigate and transform our collective experiences of the world.
