Just an update on our charity event on Saturday, just to let people know we will be starting the climb at 12 midday, the ladder will be situated against the Shoemakers Tower that's opposite Penney's in the Eyre Square Shopping Centre, please come down for a look and a photo with the Firefighters, as well as bucket collections we will have a stall there selling children's and adult Galway Fire & Rescue tee shirts proceeds of which will go to our two nominated charities, Cancer Care West and the Samaritans.
Big thanks goes out to the management team in the shopping centre for all the assistance they have given us to set up this event.

Reggie Goodbody he has a lifelong interest in boats and makes beautiful half hull block model boats ...
Reggie Goodbody of Lough Derg Yacht Club ... half hull block models –hand carved in wood by Reggie Goodbody – Half Block models of ships were first made in the 1700’s , the earliest known models were of the TROYTON built in 1697, and captured from the French at Vigo in 1702. There is another of the ORFORD built in 1698.Block models were built by the Bread and Butter method , and glued with a water soluble glue, to allow the offsets to be measured for full scale. The models allowed changes to be made in the ship , shapes of planks required, and even metal plate shapes up to 1958 where compound curves were involved. The models are carved using the grain and colour of the wood to emphasise the beautiful shapes of sailing vessels. Most models are specifically commissioned for individual collectors, also for prizes, presentations and as pieces of sculpture.
