TC tells haulier to get help from trade body

At a Public Inquiry last month haulage operator FJ Everett Transport of Essex had its O-licence curtailed. Its fleet authorisation was reduced to 13 vehicles and 13 trailers, from 19 vehicles and 25 trailers after an investigation revealed persistent poor maintenance standards and driver record keeping.

Eastern region Traffic Commissioner Richard Turfitt also said that the operator’s repute was severely tarnished and told the firm that it should ask a trade body to audit its maintenance system, as well as having driver records independently checked.

After a VOSA inspection identified serious problems, a Public Inquiry was adjourned last August to allow for further investigation, and also for financial information to be provided to the TC by the business. But FJ Everett failed to comply, and in the adjournment VOSA uncovered more failings.

Richard Turfitt said that the TCs would deal severely with hauliers who failed to keep records in order.
