𝗛𝗮𝗿𝗽 𝗘𝗻𝘀𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗡𝗮𝗴𝗼𝘆𝗮, 𝗝𝗮𝗽𝗮𝗻
In March we had the pleasure of hosting 38 Harp students and their teachers from Kinjo Gakuin, a secondary school in Nagoya, Japan. Assisted by Music Generation Laois, they had a fabulous time taking in Harp workshops, Bodhran workshops, and the obligatory GAA football session in a cultural exchange with students from several schools in and around Portlaoise. They also had the pleasure of taking in a recital in the Linenhall in Castlebar with Music Generation Mayo.
They spent time in Dublin, Portlaoise, Cliffs of Moher, Sligo, Castlebar, Boyle and Carrick on Shannon. It was a superb cultural exchange for the Japanese students as they received a really wonderful welcome from everyone they met.
The highlight of the visit was the opportunity to meet the Japanese Ambassador to Ireland at his residence in Dublin where they were welcomed warmly. Overall an amazing experience for all involved.

We had the lovely Mie over from Gifu in Japan for the week while she took some Harp lessons with Sophie Daly. She really enjoyed getting in the steps amongst the lovely Autumnal colours as we went on more than a few hikes during the week. Today we took in a wonderful new hike in the Troll Wood near Dromahair and followed up with a hike up to the Devils Chimney in Glencar.
In the beautiful woods at the Devils Chimney, it was lovely to come across this quote from Thich Nhat Hanh, a Vietnamese monk, which resonates so well with the Celtic belief in the Circle of Life.

Its always so nice to hear we are doing things well. We got a lovely review from Pau, a Spanish stuent who has returned year after year to improve his English and experience Irish culture. This year he took Guitar lessons and enjoyed the Lough Allen water camp. . Have a read of his review and others on our google business page.

Its always a pleasure to host musicians but especially in the summer when the garden resonates with beautiful sounds as lessons are held outdoors. Teresa from New York stopped off for a weekend of mandolin lessons with Rodney whilst enroute between New York and Oslo.

The sound of the Mandolin drifting across the garden was simply beautiful as Teresa from New York had lessons from Rodney this weekend.

We had a lovely couple from Germany (Achim and Heike) this week who were a real pleasure to host. They took advantage of the beautiful weather and took their music lessons in the garden.

So pleased for Ria Adachi, a regular visitor to us with her mother Yuko. Ria won the 12-15 harp contest in Keadue last year and so this year could only enter the Open age group which despite her young age, she also won! A remarkable achievement coming hot of the heels of her All Ireland Fleadh U14 Harp competition success last year. Ria is also participating next weekend in this years Fleadh competition in Wexford.

Its that time of year again when I get all excited about the birds in the garden.... Whilst sipping my morning coffee this morning I picked up 10 on the excellent app Merlin. Thats the most so far this year and if the swallows and swans hadn't been so timid they would have made it 12....
The recording doesn't do the sound justice, but I am guessing from the sounds of the garden, the birds are finding this weather fabulous as well!

We love the changiing seasons in Ireland especially Autumn and the showers that it brings. The pot of gold at the end of this beautiful rainbow was radiating such brightness, it almost tempted us to try and find it!
