Lú - Festival of lights

I always find amazing how community driven Ireland is... There's always do much to do and see for almost everyone. Sometimes at a price, mostly for free. The people of Ireland loves going out and doing things, doesn't matter what the weather throws their way... So when in Ireland, do as the Irish...

Last night we attended Lú - Festival of light in Drogheda with some fellow South Africans. The evening started off with an amazing home cooked meal at Pieter and Estée, followed by the festival.

The festival consists of three land mark buildings that's being light up with story's, replaying every 10-15 minutes. You walk from one building to the next, on your own time, listening to what each site has to present. Along the way you will alsl find people "playing" with fire and a small market in one of the churches.

Even though it was cold and wet outside, the streets were still filled with people from all ages. It's amazing to see that a little bit of rain doesn't scare anyone. You simply put on the right clothing and out you go!

What a privilege to stay in a country where we can enjoy the freedom of being outside...

This post is waaaaaaay overdue... But too great of an experience not to share!

The last evening before my mom went back home, we decided to go and attend the Hooley show at Johnny Foxes and I cannot recommend it enough! SO MUCH CRAIC!

The evening starts of with a three-course meal (okay, four, if you want to count the coffee/tea as a course), of top quality food. Once that's done, it moves over to some fantastic trad music (traditional music) to get the energy up and then it ends with the Irish dancing... and WOW! They are GREAT!

I would highly recommend this for anyone visiting Ireland or wanting a good evening filled with something unique...

For our Sunday Shenanigans, we visited ...

The castle was built around 1200 by the Archbishop of Dublin, John Comyn, as a residence and administrative centre, rather than being a serious defensive construction.

It's definitely worth a visit and absolutely free...

One of the things I love about Ireland is the active lifestyle they maintain... Rain, wind, sun, or clouds, you will always find people out jogging, walking, cycling, hiking, or playing their sports.

Not only do they have a lot of different sports that you can participate in, they also have it for all different levels of skills. This includes vets teams, as well as competitive all the way to your "Kaas en wyn" teams, in all the different sport divisions.

It's a great way to socialise, and I am thankful that I decided to join my local hockey club after 11 years without hockey...
