Sumba isn’t an island for strict itineraries - you really need to let it unfold at its own pace. But if you’re planning a trip, here are my highlights:

💧 Swim in the turquoise water of Weekuri Lagoon - easy access and if you’re brave enough, jump from the cliffs into the water

🛖Visit the Marapu villages - get on a scooter, meet the locals, and learn about a culture and way of life unlike anywhere else in Indonesia

🐴 Swim with horses - horse riding is deeply rooted in Sumba’s tradition. You can join a local with their pony or arrange it through your hotel

🌊Take the scenic drive to Watu Belah Beach - it took us 2 hours on a scooter and the views the whole way were unreal. Go in the afternoon during low tide so you can actually swim and visit the hidden cave

🌴Stay at Arya Sumba Kodi - a mid-range beachfront resort that genuinely feels like a 5-star experience. And it was so easy to get there from the airport

It takes time to really get to know Sumba, but this is a solid starting point 📌

p.s. these tips are all for West Sumba - East Sumba is a completely different world and far enough away that I’ll need a separate trip to explore it properly

Колко струва доставката на био зеленчуци в Бали? 🥦

В Бали пазарувам предимно от супермаркет и пазарчетата, но когато искам разнообразие от салати и зеленолистни си поръчвам от Island Organics.

Това е ферма в района на Табанан, която работи от 2002 г. Отглеждат над 50 сорта зеленчуци, билки и плодове на собствена земя, без пестициди и химикали. Всичко е 100% органично, и берат продукцията в часове преди доставката- тоест всичко е много свежо.

🚚 Доставят 3 пъти седмично в различните части на острова. Безплатна доставка при поръчка над 250.000 рупии и минимум 4 различни продукта.

Този път си поръчах:
→ микс за салата
→ микс зеленолистни за готвене
→ 2 опаковки от любимите ми вегетариански бургери (8 броя общо)
→ гъби
→ връхчета от папрат
→ 2 вида мента
→ 1 кг моркови
→ 1 кг краставици
→ 500 гр карфиол

Общо платих около 364.500 рупии (€17.75).

Като само бургерите струват 180,000 рупии - €8.72, а останите неща са €9.

Ако си в Бали за по-дълъг период или планираш престой с кухня, това е една от най-добрите опции на острова за чисти, прясно набрани био продукти.

Two months ago I spent a week at , located at one of the rawest parts of Sumba, and it reminded me just how good remote Indonesia can be when nobody’s tried to package it yet 🌅🌴

📍Sumba feels far, but it isn’t - one hour from Bali on Wings Air, and then an hour of road with nothing on it: corn fields, local villages, the occasional glimpse of ocean. 

if you are planning a Sumba trip - allow yourself at least 5 days for West Sumba to really feel the place - Marapu animist villages instead of temples, Sumba’s famous Sandalwood horses roaming the property at golden hour, and environment where there’s nowhere to rush for.

If you’re thinking of going, here’s what I’d recommend doing from Arya as your base:

🧘🏼‍♀️Slow down at the resort — outdoor showers under the stars, breakfast at the bamboo restaurant, swimming in a pool and the ocean
💧Drive 15 minutes down the coast to Weekuri Lagoon — turquoise saltwater, almost no one there
🛖Visit a traditional Kodi village and the megalithic stone tombs at its centre
🐴Ride a Sumba horse along the beach (I got on one for the first time in my life)
🌅Admire the sunset - the GM told me it’s her favourite in Indonesia, and she wasn’t wrong
🐟Eat the local fish - I had it almost every day
🌴And finally, stay at - beachfront, traditional Sumbanese architecture, run with real intention


What stayed with me long after I left was the weight of what’s being built here. So I reached out to the GM, Aisyah Lasmanawati, to ask what it actually takes to run a resort in a place this remote - and how to do it without losing what makes it special.

Here is your sign to do something you might’ve done once and you wish to repeat again 🧘🏼‍♀️🌊☺️

Got myself involved in a Pilates weekend by the ocean and ohh It is so nice to workout outside with the ocean breeze 💨

Last year, I did a pilates class at Ulu Cliff house and it was actually super nice, so now when I saw the event organised by the I was like I need to do that again 🌊

and what a good reason to go to the bwach as obv living in Ubud, we kinda miss that.

btw, I discovered a few months ago and it’s been featured in my Bali Passport since then. They have a beach club which is open to outside guests with some minimum spend which is totally worth it 🌴👙 also, perfect for a day trip form Ubud!

Definitely a highlight experience and not much is spoken of Bali mountains and trekking trails. I think I am discovering a whole new world 🌋

Sometimes the best reset is a weekend away from the noise and what a better place than North Bali 🌱

We stayed at Alassari Plantation - an eco-resort hidden into the mountains of north Tabanan, right at the foot of Mount Batukaru ⛰️

Jungle, birds and fresh air - it’s the perfect reset for your nervous system🌞

Joglo-style villas, open-air bathrooms, a suspension bridge above the rainforest, and a yoga shala where the only soundtrack is nature.
