Belimbing Rice Terraces, one of Bali’s most underrated rural escapes, stretch across the lush hills of Tabanan where emerald rice fields, coconut palms and misty mountains create a quieter side of the island. Winding paths cut between traditional terraces and small villages, offering a chance to explore the countryside without the crowds found around Ubud. At sunrise, the fields glow beneath the surrounding mountains, while farmers continue working the terraces using techniques passed down through generations. Take a slow walk through the paddies, stop at a local warung or simply enjoy the views from the hillside, and you’ll quickly see why this corner of Bali feels so peaceful. Add jungle-covered valleys, traditional Balinese culture and some seriously beautiful scenery, and Belimbing is an easy place to escape the busy side of the island.

Bali has no shortage of incredible babi guling, but some places consistently stand out for crispy skin, juicy pork and seriously good Balinese spice.

These are 9 of the island’s strongest spots based on Google ratings, review volume and what diners actually say about the dish itself, from famous institutions to more local favourites.
