UK Skilled Worker Visa

The Skilled Worker Visa allows foreign nationals to come to the UK to work in a specific job with an approved employer. This visa is aimed at individuals who have a job offer in a role that meets the required skill level and salary threshold.

Eligibility Requirements:

Applicants must have a job offer from a UK employer that holds a valid Sponsor Licence.

The employer must provide a Certificate of Sponsorship, which contains details about the job and the applicant.

The job must be on the list of eligible occupations.

The applicant must meet the minimum salary threshold:
Typically, the general minimum salary is £38,700 per year or the "going rate" for the job, whichever is higher.
Some roles may have different salary thresholds, and certain occupations have lower thresholds (e.g., new entrants or shortage occupations).

Applicants must demonstrate proficiency in English.

Applicants must show they can support themselves upon arrival in the UK unless the employer provides a certificate stating they will cover the costs.

Documents required:

A valid passport or travel document.

Certificate of Sponsorship (usually its reference number)

Proof of English language proficiency.

Evidence of funds (if required).

Application fees:

If you’re applying from outside the UK, the standard fee depends on whether you’ll be in the UK for:

up to 3 years - £719 per person
more than 3 years - £1,420 per person

However, if your job is on the immigration salary list, then the standard fee will be:

£551 if you’re staying for up to 3 years
£1,084 if you’re staying for more than 3 years

Healthcare surcharge:

You’ll also have to pay the healthcare surcharge for each year of your stay - this is usually £1,035 per year.

Money to support yourself:

You must have at least £1,270 in your bank account to show you can support yourself in the UK.

You will need to have had the money available for at least 28 days in a row. Day 28 must be within 31 days of applying for this visa.

You’ll usually need to show proof of this when you apply, unless either:

you’ve been in the UK with a valid visa for at least 12 months or your employer can cover your costs during your first month in the UK, up to £1,270

If your employer can support you instead, then your certificate of sponsorship must confirm this.
