A NOTE OF CAUTION!
Before you go any further, you should be aware it is not cheap. Too many folks remember their 50p Airfix Spitfires and think this will be similar.
Take the A series ERF in the BRS model post. Probably cost me around £450 to build. Also there are some trucks we can't build because donor kits/transkits are not available.
A donor kit is the kit the model is based on. If that happens to be what you want then it's significantly cheaper. Take a look at the current Italeri offerings. Italeri is basically the Italian Airfix and they do a large range of truck models. AMT has a range too but mostly US subjects. Revell also do a few trucks.
A transkit is a resin kit made by aftermarket suppliers which will transform an existing kit (hence 'donor' kit) into something else. 4 of the BRS models were transkits. (A series, B series, Marathon and the AEC Ergo). Most British subjects will come under this heading with the exception of the Bedford OS and OL. Check out Kit Form Services for the current transkit range.
So a donor kit varies between 50 and 100 quid and transkits start at around £100. Any resin conversion parts can soon add up. And add any number of hours at 30 quid an hour and you can see where this is going. A DSC showcase adds about another £100.
One other thing. If you want a model building for Xmas, contact me in June, not in November!
