We upped our game this week with a full pad wrap. Moving a massive art collection.

We turned up to the Move with premade picture sleeves using Furni-Guard for individual wraps for fragile canvases

The fully framed picture were placed in the picture bags, TV bags, and TV protectors these doubled up brilliantly..with all the edges fully protected 

When it comes to protecting very fragile Items less you have to handle it the less chance of breaking it.

No bubble wrap and no tape was used so no waste was caused
& will be reusing the premade picture sleeves.

House move 900 cubic feet. Clevedon to Weston-super-Mare.

Approximately 25 miles round trip.

A little bit of insight, 900 cubic feet is two van loads or two vans.

The customer also has the keys to both addresses.

An online company, with no depot or vans of its own, quoted £309.17 + VAT = £371 inclusive.

Okay, time for the maths

You’re looking at either:

3 men working for 6 hours,
or
2 men working for 8 hours.

Two vans loads or two trips are needed

Let’s work it out using minimum wage, before adding holiday pay, employer’s National Insurance or pension contributions.

Option 1: Three men

3 men × £12.50 × 6 hours = £225

Option 2: Two men

2 men × £12.50 × 8 hours = £200

Then add vehicles minimum running costs:

• Fuel: £30
• Van costs: £70

That gives us a cost of approximately £300–£325, depending on the staffing

And remember, this is before all the additional employment costs, insurance, administration, equipment, and any allowance for profit.

So whoever they sub move out to would be running at a loss

I have absolutely no problem with customers shopping around and trying to find the cheapest solution.

What I do have a problem with is companies putting forward prices that appear completely unrealistic for the amount of work involved.

At least try to be competitive while covering your costs.

The customer has booked with us, but the online price was so low that it actually made them question whether something was wrong.

Cheap is one thing. Sustainable is another.

We all want a fair price, but there has to be a bit of reality behind the figures. 👍

We have, real vans, real staff, real running costs.

When people ask me how clean I keep the inside of my Van……… after a good clean last night,
it did smell clinical today 😂😂
