The Phoenix came away from Cardiff at the weekend with a 3-0 loss, after what was otherwise a very promising first game with good chances. Going down 2-0 in the first, the game got progressively tighter as Cardiff scored a single goal in the second and no goals in the third.
Cardiff’s recent signing from last season’s Premier League-winning Bristol Huskies Liv Taylor scored all three of Cardiff’s goals, with Comets’ Captain Jordan Phipps assisting the second.
Cardiff’s defence played well, shutting down all of the Phoenix’s offensive attempts. Despite this, Coventry still managed 39 shots on the Cardiff net, denied by Comets’ goaltender Mackenzie Macnamara.
At the other end of the ice, Phoenix goalie #67 Ellie-Jo Cole, sponsored by Richard and Valerie Cole, faced 42 shots, equating to a 92.9% save percentage. Ellie was awarded the Phoenix player of the game trophy - well deserved!!
#19 Captain Jenny Adams, sponsored by On Your Marks, earned the Spirit of the Game award, and the team flamingo hat🦩 went to #66 Danielle Reynolds, sponsored by Bruce Lornie.
Despite the Phoenix falling short of getting on the scoreboard, Coach Lynas gave a shout out to some of the standout performers for him:
#48 Maddison Stevens (sponsored by Geberit)
#29 Sarah Powell (sponsored by On Your Marks)
#14 Alice Rothnie (sponsored by Emma Bates)
The next Phoenix game is on 19th November versus Oxford Midnight Stars at home! We hope to see lots of you there! 🔥🔥🔥
