We cannot wait to celebrate our formal anniversary with you all tomorrow.

On the 1st May 1876 the first passenger train pulled out of Settle Station heading for Carlisle and tomorrow back at that same station we are celebrating, commemorating, recreating and having fun.

With lots of volunteers in costume, history talks, signal box tours, book signings by the distinguished author and expert on the line Roger Hardingham and of course the most spectacular Chocolate and (non-alcoholic) Guinness birthday cake made for us by Nick, support of the Friends of the Settle-Carlisle Line there is something for everyone to enjoy - fun starts at 10am so please do come along

Important information from Northern regarding the line.

Embankment failure: Settle & Carlisle line

There is an ongoing issue with a structural failure on the S&C between Garsdale and Kirkby Stephen which requires some considerable earthworks repairs to rectify. Single line working is currently in force past the affected site, resulting in delays of up to 30 minutes for Northbound services to Carlisle. An amended train plan has been issued to account for this loss in running to provide more accuracy to customers.

On Wednesday, the line will be CLOSED between Kirkby Stephen and Garsdale. We will be drawing up plans to run trains between Carlisle and Kirkby Stephen and Leeds to Garsdale either side of the blockage, and bus replacement will be provided for the through service. This is likely between Settle and Appleby. We will be issuing a more detailed plan to customers by early tomorrow once finalised to provide confidence to customers travelling on Thursday.

We are confident the line will be restored to normal working for the start of service on Thursday.

Delays between Skipton and Carlisle expected until the end of the day on Wednesday 25 February. Find details of all current incidents on National Rail Enquiries.

Exceptionally proud to have organised such a successful partnership launch event for the 150th Anniversary of passenger travel on the line.

Key note speeches from Alex Hornby Customer and Commercial Director at Northern and Tony Watson Head of Economy and Tourism for Visit North Yorkshire gave the audience some fabulous insight and food for thought around how the line has a role to play in both transport and tourism for its next 150 years and the railway 'family' gave a lovely presentation showcasing all the work we currently do.

This is just the start of a full and varied programme of events for the 150th Anniversary year so make sure you stay tuned to socials to find out what else is coming up and how you can get involved

Delighted with the excellent press coverage for our 150th Anniversary year as we launch with a statement of support from Michael Portillo - Honorary President for the Friends of the Settle-Carlisle Line. Local and regional newspapers have picked up the story. Lets hope the BBC/ITV follow suit and shine the light on this amazing line in its 150th birthday year!

The iconic Settle-Carlisle Railway will celebrate its 150th anniversary in 2026.
